10K vs. 14K

@brd2be, on December 8, 2017 at 10:12 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

This feels like kind of a dumb question but I have not been able to find a straight answer when googling! My e-ring is 14K white gold and I am going to do a white gold band - does my band have to be 14K as well? I ask because I am finding alot of 10K options that I like but I'm not sure if they would look different at all or if there is any reason I should avoid mixing the two?

    10K might look a little whiter due to less gold content - but I'm not sure how noticeable it would be.

    They will more than likely look different. Put paging @mrsbdeg in the title.

    I have rose gold but the jeweler did let me know that if I went with a lower karat the colors would differ (in my case my band would have looked more pink). I'm not sure how noticeable a difference it would be in white gold. Can you stop in at a jeweler and see if they have any 10K white gold that you can compare?

    My engagement ring is 18K white gold and the wedding band I ordered is 14K white gold. The jeweler told me there really wouldn't be a difference, and the cost savings was significant. There is a photo on Pinterest somewhere that shows the difference.

    I have 14k engagement ring and 10k wedding band, both white gold and I don't notice a difference.

    You should go to a store and try both on for comparison. Both my rings are 14K white gold.

    10 k gold imo has no value .. my mom who is an antique dealer told me never to go 10 k .. 14 and up .. there will be color difference . . Price difference too I was going to buy my daughter's 7 and 9 10k gold necklaces for Christmas because of the price and my mom said no way and she paid for the difference to get them 14 k ..

    My e-ring is 14k and wedding band is 10K. IMO the only difference is that my wedding band can go longer between being re-dipped .

    10K is the gold content- it contains less gold and more alternative metal such as nickel. The value of the ring itself is lower because it. You'll still need to have it polished & dipped regularly to maintain the color, but because it contains more alternative metal you might be able to go longer between services. But there's no reason you can't mix metals. I worked in an engagement ring store for a while, and had a lot of brides who chose a different metal for their wedding band than their engagement ring.

    My engagement ring is 14K white gold and my wedding band is 18K white gold, and there's definitely a slight difference.
