11 Year Old Flower Girl?

Marquisha, on January 29, 2020 at 1:25 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 2 19

Hey ladies! Congratulations on your engagement/marriages! So my sweet middle child is dead set on being a flower girl in the wedding. I talked with her about being a junior bridesmaid, but she insists on being a flower girl. I know the typical "cut-off" age is around 8. My fiance' is totally fine with her being a flower girl and he's encouraging me to allow her to do it. What are your thoughts?

It's totally fine to have an 11 year old flower girl, especially since that's what she wants to do! Our flower girls are my two nieces, one is 7 and the other will be a week shy of 12 Smiley smile

If she wants to do it let her do it! It’s a great way to incorporate her into the wedding and no one will care how old she is

Who really cares how old your flower girl is? As long as you guys are happy with your choice, that’s all that matters.

I think 11 is fine to be a flower girl! If that is the role she wants, let her be involved how she wants to be Smiley smile

I get married in April, my daughter turns 12 in May and she is my flower girl, but she isn't in white, but will match the bridesmaids.

There is NO cutoff age for a flowergirl !!!
“Too old” only exists if the girl herself feels that way (Ex a young teen desperately hoping to be seen as mature may not want the roll thinking she’s too old). If she’s on board, absolutely no reason to concern yourself with age.

I have 2 - almost 3 year old flower girls and a 32 year old flower girl [their mom].
    Their mom is escorting them.

If that's what your kid wants to do, let her do it. It'll make her happy.

There is no cut off age for being a flower girl. I had my 35 year old sister ask if she could be mine lol and she was dead serious! It is your wedding and if she has her heart set on it, that is precious and she absolutely should be.

I was a flower girl at my dad’s wedding when I was 10 because I really wanted to be lol. As long as she doesn’t feel too old for it, she’s not too old for it

Thank you all for your answers! Idk why I overthink these things lol. I'll let her know tonight that I would absolutely love for her to be our flower girl. I've never discouraged her, I just wanted to give her other options, but it is really what she wants and I can't say no to my sweet girl!

I have been debating the same basic question - but mine is my 11 year old God Son as ring bearer... Sounds like I should talk to him.

    Thanks for the advice ladies!!

However she wants to participate be it flower girl or jr. bridesmaid should be her choice. I like the idea of having her in an outfit that coordinates with the other bridesmaids. My cousin did that at her wedding with the little ones - they wore the same color as the bridesmaids just in styles more appropriate for children. Some of the dresses for jr. bridesmaids are a bit "mature" looking in my opinion. I had that problem with my jr. bridesmaid.

My niece is 11 and is my one and only bridesmaid. My FH and I decided not to have a wedding party but I thought it would be nice if my niece and nephew were part of it, however, her 8 year old brother wants nothing to do with it. Even after I said he could be the "guardian of the rings" as opposed to ring bearer!

My flower girls will be 12, 11, and 10. They won’t hear of any other title/job and I don’t care. If it makes them happy, I’m happy 😃

I was a flower girl when I was 11 Smiley smile . I say GO for it & not worry about the "typicals". I was at first, but 6 months away & after everything starts flying by, getting hectic & adding up, I no longer care LOL
