12/14/24

We just got engaged and wanted to do 12/14/24. Randomly bc it’s our favorite numbers haha. I’m looking at venues right now bc I know places will start to fill due to holiday parties and what not. I don’t even know where to start. We are thinking 50 -75 ish people . Fairly small. We are living in one state and planning on another state getting married. Or… should a courthouse be done for “our date” then plan a ceremony and reception at a later time to not to have to rush it?!?

You should be fine to have the wedding on the day you have selected. December tends to be to off season for weddings so vendors will likely have more open availability.

When it comes to planning you want to start with creating your budget then your actual guest list. While you say 50-75 you need to know the actual number of guests that you planning on having. Reason being is that certain things are charged per guest. Another reason is to ensure you pick a venue that can accommodate the number of people. I think it depends on what you and your family/friends have going on around the holidays. A lot of people are super busy that time of year with shopping, travel, and family obligations; and finances may be really tight. Some things to consider....

    1. You say you are living in one state, but planning your wedding in another. Are your guests in the state where you are planning your wedding? Or will they have to travel for it? If they would need to travel, it may be more difficult near the holidays when many people are already using their time off, already have obligations/travel planned, and may not be able to swing it financially. If you and your spouse are the ones travelling, you would need to take the same things into consideration.

    2. Many venues and caterers raise their rates in December, so you may end up paying more than if you would have your event during non-holiday/off-season times of the year.

    3. Hotels and airfare tend to be higher during holidays; so anyone required to travel/stay at hotels could end up paying more than they would during off-season/non-holiday times.

    4. Do you want to take on the added stress of a wedding (and all the things that entails during the last month), during a busy holiday season?
