150 guest: Escort Cards or Seating Chart with place cards @ the table

Precious, on May 26, 2015 at 4:14 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 8

We are expecting 150-160 guests. Which will make seating run smoother?

Escort cards placed on a table in the foyer with their name and table number or

A seating chart in the foyer with place cards on the table?

We are having a plated dinner so assigned table seating is necessary.

The last two weddings I went to: We checked in at the foyer and were escorted to our table. The other one was sit where ever you want. Both were buffets styles.

I am actually not sure which is a better option. I would probably lean more towards escort cards. Has your caterer mentioned anything about what has worked better for past weddings?

I think my first priority would be convenience and speed. When we first said escort cards my coordinator said we should allow 15 minutes for people to find their seats. I feel like 15 minutes is a long time.

For a plated dinner, you will probably need escort cards. How else will you communicate with the servers what your guests ordered for dinner?

Since you are having a plated dinner, I would do escort cards that double as place cards (unless you are doing assigned seats, then you need both) so servers will know what guests ordered.

I would ask your caterer what they find works best and what they require to show servers what guest gets what dinner.

Definitely escort cards, especially if you're doing a played dinner choice, as the venue may need you to distinguish

Definitely escort cards. I think seating charts are harder because you have to look table by table to find your chair instead of just being in alphabetical order.

I've been to more family wedding than I can count (and kudos to all of them because they hosted us as if we were all VIPs), and those weddings were comprised of hundreds of guests. There's a way to place escort cards to move the large crowd along. Do it in alphabetical order. I've seen it done by table number, but it takes some time to find your name when there are 22 tables. Display the escort cards in alphabetical order and i'll immediately go to the "Ws", and I'll find my table in all of ten seconds, and I'll get the hell out of the way of the fifteen people crowding me.
