Dedicated January 2021

17 Days!

Lorraine, on December 31, 2020 at 8:35 AM Posted in Planning 0 4
Hi everyone! Wedding is in 17 days and I’m starting to freak out. Everything is pretty much done and our day of coordinator is working on the timeline. I have a very type A personality and like to be in charge. I also used to work in theatre and helped run large events so I’m used to very detailed planning and everything happening as it should. I think i’m also anxious because FW thinks everything will be great, but that’s because I’m making sure it gets done. It’s actually a very small ceremony and reception (Covid) but lots of details. How do I relax and not stress out, especially on the big day? Help!

How many guests will you have?
My advice: mentally prepare for things to go wrong. Stuff happens. Let it roll off of ya. The main purpose is for you to marry your love and to have a good time! Most importantly, great memories.

If you know that you have prepared for everything, and you have a DOC that you trust, I would just stop thinking about it. Easier said that done, I know lol. But I found the last 2 weeks before our wedding to be the least stressful of them all. I told myself there was nothing I could do at this point and let the rest to our planner/DOC.

Unfortunately, something doesn't always go exactly as planned no matter how much you plan. For example, I lost my jewelry and my mom and bridesmaids spent about 45 minutes searching for it the morning of the wedding until they eventually found it. That definitely wasn't part of my plan, but we had to deal with it and move on. I would trust in your DOC as they are a professional and have been through this more times than you.

    Ok, as a theatre person:

This is just one big show, with a one-night only run.

But, the thing with shows is.... nothing ever goes perfectly. A cue gets missed, a costume rips, someone flubs a line, a light blows out.

And... it's ok. It's totally fine. You rehearse and plan and practice for those contingencies. The actors improv, the costumers patch things, the stage crew refocuses a light.

    Breathe.

    Treat this like a show.

You've done all you could for opening night... now it's time to have fun.
