No offense to the king but I wouldn't play Elvis at my wedding either.. you could do some 1950's inspired music though, your DJ could probably help you with selections and quite honestly you couldn't go wrong with jazzy tunes.

For decorations, pearls and diamonds (fake of course) would look nice if you could incorporate them on the tables somehow..

Take your time.. no need to plan it all at once! It will come to you over the next few months Smiley winking

Elvis had a great voice. But he was one voice of the 50's. It depends which side of the 50's you are hoping to showcase. The "rock and roll" 50's, or the Rat Pack 50's.

All great ideas; a birdcage veil is "a must" to stay with the theme! Here is one at $19:

If you are doing Rat Pack, then, the music of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, the Ames Brothers, Johnny Mathis (who was actually more 60's), Nat King Cole.

Have the pop of color in your shoes if mom won't let you do it in your dress. If you need any ideas let me know. I would love to help I love 50's themed weddings. They can be so fun. And it can actually be done well on a small budget. Love songs think of Bobby Venton, Frankie Avalon, Sinatra, Engelberg Humperdink, Fats Domino, Ray Charles, Sam Cook, Ricky Nelson, Pat Boone, Nat King Cole, Patty Page, The Andrews Sisters, Doris Day, The Mills Brothers

    Awesome!

I'm trying to find stuff on a really small budget but stuff that looks professional...

like my FH...his aunt did our engagement pics but for the entire bridal package, she's way too expensive, and he wants his brother's gf to do the wedding pics...and idk how i feel about that, cause she doesn't have much of a portfolio

and i've seen cakes that run up in the $1,000's and bouquets that r way over $500 =[ and lots of ppl have told us "good luck with a $3,000 budget...i doubt it will work"

You could see if she would do just a few hours and pay her for those hours instead of a full bridal package? Like if you have a shorter ceremony his aunt could cover that, and than just the necessary hour or so of the reception that involve special dances etc.? Than have the brother's gf cover all the rest?

For the cake, you really don't need to spend thousands. You could just get a small 2 tier mini wedding cake for cutting, and sheet cakes for serving everyone.

3k is doable it depends though. What exactly are your expectations? Like, what standards are you trying to meet? As long as you are not envisioning a super extravagant wedding the budget is not too bad.

    No...i'm not a extravagant person.

but since it's her nephew, she's not charging for time, only for stuff she needs to buy for it. and she said that was pushing around the $1,500 point and thats half my budget right there. and as far as his brothers gf goes...we was going to get her to do the engagement pics...we messaged her, could never get in touch with her, his bro gave her my number and told her to call me and she never did. I need someone reliable abd rock solid

You have to prioritize things financially. We have a relatively small budget as well, but photography was one of the things we ended up splurging on. We aren't having a cake or a dj. Minimal decorations. It just depends on what is important to you and FH.

My photographer suggested telling our guests to dress up 50s style.

I'm sorry if that came off rude. Between 3 wedding forums I'm getting tired of brides who have unrealistic visions, and than throw pity parties because they can't have what they want. It will be tough, but it's doable as I said. My own budget is only a little higher than yours at 5k.

I do have to ask what "stuff" would she need to buy that would cost $1,500? With 6 hour coverage labor fees and prints included there are a lot of professionals whose entire wedding packages cost $1,500. In that case the bro's gf should not even be a consideration. I would definately hate to use someone that unreliable.

For music, I say the Flamingos, I Only Have Eyes for You.

    And love the cupcakes!

    Here's some music hints.
