1St Anniversary and Portrait Photos

Amy, on May 20, 2020 at 1:49 PM Posted in Married Life 0 20

May 18th was our 1-year anniversary and by coincidence we got our portrait session photos back! As we couldn't really celebrate right now, it was a pleasant surprise and the best gift we can receive.

Originally we only wanted candid photos of our wedding but agreed to sit through a portrait session to satisfy our Asian parents. Due to recent events, it took more than 5 months to get the photos back. Seeing the photos reminded me of all the happy moments a year ago, and it is hard to believe life has changed so much in so short a time. But I guess here's life's message to me to remember all the nice little things and believe things will always get better.

    Your pictures are absolutely stunning! You both look so flawlessly elegant and I've got serious dress envy. 🥰 I love that you also took advantage of Iceland scenery and got a few more pictures!

    I loved Iceland and highly recommend it to anyone! We had a little less of 2 weeks and it was the start of the winter season there, so we were able to tour only half of the island. I would definitely go back again. Most of the attractions of Iceland are basically along the coastal highway, and people do a around the island road trip. We did a half trip covering the Southern Coast and West Peninsula.

    All hotels we stayed at were great, very notable ones include Hotel Kria in Vik, Hotel Laki in Efri-Vik, Icelandair Hotel Hamar in Borgarnes and Harbour View Cottage in Grindavik. There are also a few that my friends went to, and I couldn't book because of how popular they are: ION Adventure Hotel, Frost and Fire Hotel... Iceland literally has countless beautiful and romantic hotels.

    Attraction-wise we only covered half of them, and decided to go to

    1)Reykjavik: the capital and most likely where you land;

    2) Golden Circle: with geyser and golden waterfall etc. (some people say it's similar to Yellow Stone and was not so awed; I've never been to Yellow Stone and liked it, and it's so close to Reykjavik and easy to fit into your itinerary.

    3) Lots of other waterfalls along the way: there are so many in Iceland, I recommend looking up photos and pick out a few that you like. They are all different from each other, but I find it a bit tiring looking at too many waterfalls all the time.

    4) Black beach: great spot for photos;

    5) The 2 glacier lagoons (Jokulsarlon): highly recommend

    6) Nearby "diamond beach": another great spot for pictures

    7) Moss: Icelandic mosses are very pretty but also very delicate. There is a spot between Vik and Reykjavik where you can observe them very closely without stepping on them. It is along the highway, and I don't think it has a name.

    8) Snæfellsjökull or the West Peninsula: it's like a mini Iceland with volcano, cliffs, waterfall, glacier, and some very nice f-road (if you like f-road driving).

    There're 2 popular destinations that we skipped:

    1) airplane beach: the weather was very nasty and we didn't see the point of walking all that distance to see the remains of a plane

    2) Blue Lagoon: too expensive to fit in our budget

    Super cute! And I LOVE your self taken honeymoon photos. I so want to do that! Did you bring your wedding dress or wear a different dress for them?

    Thanks! My wedding dress for my "real" wedding was too big to take, and I was worried about tearing it or something because of the Icelandic weather. So I took a "normal" gown and a blue dress that I later wore for our Asian wedding/family dinner.

    That's awesome. I actually bought a boho inspired dress that could be a really casual wedding dress or a vacation dress so we could possibly do something like this. It was pretty inexpensive so I don't need to worry as much about damaging it. I love this idea!

    Wow that sounds amazing, please share your experience and photos afterwards. It also exactly my thought to bring inexpensive dress so I can take the worry away from my mind.
