1St Makeup trial! What do you think?

Marissa, on August 16, 2020 at 2:23 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 14
Makeup trial was yesterday! I hardly wear any makeup, never wear foundation or eye shadow except for special events, so this was very new to me. The artist was super nice and I felt she did a good job overall, however I feel like it's still too much. The brows look too blocky to me and the shadow is too smokey. I wanted a more natural look. I also think the lashes are waaaay too long and the glitter is too much, maybe a more of a subtle shimmer on the eyes will be better? I really enjoyed talking with her and she was super nice, so I think I want to schedule another trial with her and try again, or should I just find someone new? Thoughts?

To be honest, I don’t think that the makeup looks anything like the picture. If I were you, I would find a different artist. I would agree that the brows are a lot. The eyes aren’t bad tho!

I actually love the lashes! (But if they aren't for you, I get that - they just photograph really well.) I think maybe some highlighting on the eyes could help - I also have hooded eyes so dark looks much darker.
Like the overall face, but obviously if you want much different look you may need to keep searching.

Tell makeup artist to use matte eye shadow and shorter lashes. And maybe not as much on brows.

Sometimes I feel bad when someone is really nice, however this is your big day and lots of photos will be taken. In my very honest opinion, i respectfully recommend you find someone new. Her work doesn’t screen professions MUA to me :/

I agree that your makeup does not look like the inspo pic. It’s a lot darker on the eyes, and def not a natural look. I also agree that your eyebrows are a bit overdrawn, she should accentuate the natural shape you have, not make them bigger. You could try another trial with her and see, but that’s more money out of your pocket if you still don’t like it. Maybe ask for another artist.

If you liked her and you think she'll be good at implementing your feedback then I'd schedule another trial and see! Just let her know to go lighter on the brows, use a lighter eye shadow shade, and try the individual lash clusters instead of a full set for a more natural look!

You could also try out another stylist and see if you like their work more!

It looks really good!! If you want to schedule another trial you are more than welcome and maybe go over those concerns you have with her? Ask her to create more of a natural look with less shimmer and not so filled in brows? If you like the person and think they do a great job then I say to stick with them but go over the concerns you might have. I think the eye shadow and eyelashes make your eyes pop but that's my opinion. You should feel comfortable on your day and how you like it and feel!!

I also agree the brows are VERY...ummm...pronounced. I can't tell you to find another MUA or not, that's up to you. I will say, whether or not you want to give her another try and stay with her, or if you want to try someone else, tell them exactly what you didn't like about this look and try and be as specific as you can about what you DO want. If you're not used to wearing makeup, it's all a different experience for you, I get that. Maybe try telling her you more of a "soft glam" look rather than "evening glam". I agree with another poster who said maybe matte shadows are the thing for you. And if you want shorter lashes, by all means, let her know that. It's your wedding and you're spending your hard-earned money and you should absolutely get exactly what you want. However, MUAs are just that -- they are not mind-readers. Do not be afraid to say what you want.

This is definitely a MUA that is into the Instagram brow look that just does not translate well into real life, especially if you don't normally wear a lot of makeup.

I think the overall look is not bad, but definitely not the same as your inspiration picture at all. Based on what you described about your everyday look I think your look could be a bit more blended and natural. The brown eyeshadow in the crease makes the look heavier and darker. The sparkle in the shadow on the last is chunkier as well. The lashes also overwhelm you a bit. I used "baby demi" lashes from Allure and they have a bit of flip just on the ends - kind of like a cateye look. They helped my eyes pop without being as overwhelming as a full on lash.

A good MUA will stay true to your inspiration and mention to you where they recommend changing things to suit you better. Only you know in your gut if you think she will be receptive to feedback and if you will be able to provide it confidently.

I think it looks good on you and resembles your inspiration pic. I don't see there being an issue. What do you think? Do YOU like it?

Thank you everyone for all your feedback!!! After constantly looking back at these photos I didn't end up liking the look. It's the brows and eyes that bothered me. At first when I saw myself in the mirror I was like, "Woah! Not used to this!" And then wearing it for the rest of the day it definitely felt too much and I was uncomfortable haha. So I told the makeup artist the changes I want and we scheduled another trial. 😊 Hopefully this next one goes okay! I'll keep you all posted!
