2 Dresses or Nah?

Steph, on September 30, 2021 at 7:36 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11
My FH and I came up with a perfect idea for some great photos and we decided to do a “first looks” mini shoot. Since we decided on this, I have played with the idea of having a different dress for that “first looks” shoot! Here is my reasoning:
The shoot will be at our tattoo shop. Although it is immaculate, I still don’t want to risk getting dirty before the ceremony.
I kind of want my dress to be revealed walking down the aisle. I don’t want to take away from that wow factor he might have during that moment.
Anyone else have these thoughts?

So a first look but not really a first look because you'll be changing dresses? Lol. It'll be a first look for you to see him though.

If it's in your budget go for it. I personally wouldn't do it though it kinda seems like a waste because would you only wear the first dress for picture purposes?

Although I am always down for a photo shoot for any reason 😆 I agree with PP that it kind of seems like a waste and wouldn’t technically be a “first look”, since the purpose of the first look is to have your groom see you in your dress for the first time and to get pictures of the two of you in your wedding attire prior to the ceremony in order to save time. That’s not to say you shouldn’t do it, though. If you want to have a cute mini photo shoot with your fiancé at your tattoo shop, then definitely go for it! If you choose a dress that is comfortable, you could always use it as a back up dress for your reception in case you want to change out of your ceremony dress

That was exactly my dilemma! Like, it’s not a first look if I do that. Also, I considered a cheaper dress for it because really my biggest concern is getting dirty before the big walk. There’s so much thinking involved with this wedding stuff lol

That is also something I considered. Changing later in the evening. I think I’m going to stick to 1 dresses though, having 2 just makes more for me to do lol

I'm thinking of having a reception dress made from the extra material that I'll be having cut from my wedding dress. It'll have to be turned from a ball down to an A-line for a slimmer skirt, and I'll also need it shortened and the train shortened. That should give me enough material to make at least the skirt of a short dress to change into halfway through the reception. I was planning on wearing my wedding dress the whole time.

My fiancé wanted me in a form-fitting dress, but I fell in love with a ball gown that I can modify, so I wanna have a form fitting dress made to give him what he wants too.

This is the design on my wedding dress that I want used in a reception dress too, with the champagne liner.

Sounds like a regular photoshoot to me. Since it’s such a short timeframe, maybe wear a white outfits but not an actual wedding dress. That would be a trendy photoshoot given the location. I figure that your FH should change clothes as well.

I have never been a big fan of multiple dresses. It seems too “extra” to me, but you should do what you want to do. Good luck and congratulations!

Stop and listen to your gut…if budget is not an issue then definitely go for it! If the budget’s tight or whatever then reconsider. This is one day that you can and should be extra. So many brides, even here, wear more than one dress! Just because it’s a first look dress rather than a reception dress makes no difference. (Aka tune out the budget brides mindset).
