2 hrs enough - 1st look /pics

Meghan, on April 9, 2021 at 9:47 AM Posted in Planning 0 4
We spoke to our venue and have a brief time line for our wedding (in September 2021).

We would arrive at the venue at 2:30 for first look and pictures. The ceremony starts at 4:30, cocktail hour at 5, etc.
The ceremony and reception are at the same location. The hotel we’re staying at is 10 minutes away.
Do you think 2 hours is enough time for first look and other photos/video?
(Venue said we’re gonna get a more detailed time line closer to the date. I’m just curious if 2 hrs is enough.)

I think this will depend largely on your photograper, the amount of locations you plan to shoot at, and the amount of photos you are wanting.
Also, do remember that your photographers will capture hundreds of photos after your posed photo timeslots. FH and I are really not allotting a ton of time for posed photography. We booked a one hour session for our engagement photos, and found that we could have easily done the session in 30 mins. The amount of photos we received for one hour of shooting was insane! Plus, neither of us especially enjoy static, posed photos. We much prefer photojournalistic style photography. So we are minimizing the amount of time we dedicate to posed photos, so that we will have more time to mingle with our guests and capture “real” photos of our evening actually happening.

It depends what type of photos you want then. Are you wanting all the family pictures done then? Do you have a big family? Are you wanting all the wedding party pictures done then?
I would honestly speak with your photographer about this as they’re the professional and depending on which pictures you want and whether they’re all in the same area, they should be able to tell you!

It all depends on the type of photos you want (poses, locations, who you want to take pictures with, etc.). It seems like a good amount of time, but again it all depends on those factors Smiley smile I feel like if you have everything all set then you can move things more quickly. Also consider setting up the shots and possibly having to touch up so that could take about 5 minutes in between taking pictures.

I think you could get all of your pictures done in two hours if you plan well and get everyone you need there on time!! Like the previous posters have said - talk with your photographer to see how much time you'll need for the pictures you want!

Here's a great sample timeline you can check out: The Ultimate Wedding Photography Timeline
