2 outfits for engagement photos?

Brittany, on March 6, 2018 at 12:18 PM Posted in Parties and Events 2 25
So my mom, mentioned have a change of clothes for engagement photos, I've never heard of anyone doing this before. Is it a thing? Has anyone here done it? What's the reasoning? Like so you can have formal and casual?

Yes. I had two dresses, one long one in blue/purple, and the other was a short black dress. The black one was for night and the long one I wore during the day. Our photo shoot was over 3 hours long.

Many photographers allow you the option to change outfits. This could be for wedding colors vs. favorite colors reasons, casual vs. formal, or simply because you guys can't pick one favorite outfit. I had the option to, but didn't because I only had an hour (free engagement session with the package) and I wanted to maximize my time. I also didn't have another outfit picked out or a very comfortable place to get changed.

We had two outfits for our engagement shoot, and I would honestly recommend it so you get more variety! I wore a cute burgundy wrap dress with booties for half (FH wore a navy Polo pullover to incorporate our wedding color theme) then a cute tunic top with jeans for the second. It's all personal choice but I can say that I'm glad we did !

Yeah, this is pretty standard (even for regular portraits). It’s nice for variety and for if you don’t love how one look ends up photographing . You don’t have to do a formal versus casual look , but you certainly can. Just have fun with it. Some people do definitely want to show a classy side then a fun quirky side. Others just have a couple favorite outfits they want to see

We did two outfits, one dressier and one in more casual clothes. I've also seen engagement pictures where couples stick with one outfit for the whole shoot. It's really dependent on what you want and on the length of your shoot (a shorter shoot would be more difficult to fit an outfit change into). You can ask your photographer whether it's going to be a good idea with the time you have or whether outfit changes are typical for his or her engagement shoots.

You definitely can do two outfits (or however many you want!)

As someone else said, we are only doing one because our session isn't very long and I don't want to waste the time with outfit changes. I'd rather use it all for pictures Smiley smile personal preference

I did one casual (jeans and a really cute blouse with booties) then one nicer look (long dress but still not fancy more of a long sundress with wedge booties) and then we also used his FF gear for another we actually had 3 changes 🙈

I did two outfits as well- which was kind of a last minute decision. The first was a short white lace dress and the second was jeans and a blue blouse. I figured it would be nice to have the variety. And we ended up using two different pictures on our save the dates (one in each outfit) so it was nice to have that option and not feel like we were repeating the same picture with a different pose.

We will have two outfits. We are including our dogs in some of the photos and wrangling 5 dogs in a cream dress isn't an option 😂. We are also usually in jeans and boots so that is a little more us.

Yes! 2 outfits is almost like getting 2 photoshoots for the price of one, because it makes the photos look so different. That's what FH and I did.

My FH and I did this for our photos. We just brought two different flannels and a coat for both of us. We only ended up using two of the outfits, but it was nice to know we had them.

I had two outfits also. We had a beach session, so I wore a dress for that so we could walk along the waters edge. Then I had jeans and a nice top to wear afterwards when we were along the pier. I'm glad for the change of outfits as it was so cold during the beach portion that I lost the feeling in my feet. But was able to warm up once I changed outfits. We did our photo shoot in January.

We actually had two different photo shoots. The first we went to the zoo in jeans, sweaters, and winter coats for more casual pictures. Our second shoot was at Disney World so he wore a suit and I wore a cocktail dress. I love having both casual and more formal pictures.

We technically had one outfit, but we did some pics with the jacket on and some with the jacket off. That created enough variety for me Smiley smile

We did have multiple outfits but we didn't switch it up for formal vs. casual, I just wanted to make sure there were pictures I liked!!! Some outfits will just be less photogenic than others, and if you're taking the time and money to have professional engagement pictures done then you want to make sure you like them!! Smiley tongue

We haven't taken our engagement photos yet, but we did take couples photos when my fiance got out of the military. We also used that photoshoot for my college graduation photos, so I had an outfit change. Some photographers charge more for an outfit change. It's just to get an array of pictures. Maybe one outfit is more traditional, a white summer dress, and one outfit is more relaxed, like jeans. Or if you have a common interest, like cowboy boots for country theme, camo for hunting, athletic clothing for sports, etc.
