2020 Silver Linings

Lisa, on December 28, 2020 at 6:58 PM Posted in Community Conversations 2 46
I think 2020 has been a very tough year for us all. So much uncertainty, unknowns, changes in plans. Many people have lost jobs, lost loved ones to COVID, had COVID themselves, haven't been able to visit with friends and family members, haven't been able to travel, etc. Many of us have had to downsize, postpone, or even cancel our wedding plans.

But as 2020 finally comes to a close, even with the pandemic, I try to look for the silver linings. For example, my relationship with my fiance has been strengthened because of the pandemic: we learned how to be around each other literally 24/7. We finally stopped procrastinating and deep cleaned our home and got rid of a lot of clutter. We each took on new hobbies to make up for the ones that were on hold due to the pandemic, and we share what we learned with each other. We also now have more time to make some changes to our wedding plans to make it more of what we want.

So let's end the year with a positive note! What silver linings did you find in 2020 for you? Has your relationship been strengthened from the pandemic? Were your plans forced to change, and it ended up being for the best? Let's hear about your silver linings!

Good idea Lisa!! Agree with you - my husband and I are closer as a result and we worked as an amazing team during tremulous wedding planning. I am more flexible and resistant than I ever knew. With only 10 days to replan our entire ceremony and find a new location, we are still in awe we found a solution and loved it!! I am very grateful for my husband and the wonderful family and friends who made it to our dream wedding ❤️ Good health and happy new year to all!!

I was much calmer during my wedding than I would have been pre-Covid. So many things had gone wrong already with having to cut down our list and re-plan the entire thing, that the day of I was just so thankful it was actually happening that I didn’t worry about the small things.
I also got to work from home which my company will allow me to keep doing post-Covid. I get to spend much more time with my cat during the day which is great.

My silver lining was finding out I was pregnant. We got married last year and immediately started trying to have a baby. I found out in February 2020 that I have PCOS which makes it more difficult to become pregnant. My doctor put me on meds to help me ovulate. I was scheduled to be on the meds for six months and if after six months I didn't become pregnant my husband and I were going to have to see a fertility specialist. Month five I found out I was pregnant and my husband and I couldn't be more excited!!!! We also bought our first home this year.

That's awesome, I'm so glad you can see a silver lining. I also feel very blessed because we've stayed full income throughout the pandemic (until next month that is, but still most of it) and we too feel like our relationship has definitely strengthened! Being around each other more has helped us grow in patience and compassion towards one another and that is so important. I feel our partnership has leveled up. 🥰

My silver lining was that my son was born on the first day of the new year. After not being able to have our wedding due to one issue after another ( losses loved ones, financial burden) we’re finally having the wedding of our dreams (hopefully). We brought our first home and we fell more in love.

My silver lining that even though I did not have the big wedding I always imagined I was able to marry an amazing guy and have a few people I love be there. Also, I did feel like I had a bridal experience even if not the one my friends had. I am blessed the weather held out as much as it could even with a tropical storm looming and that I was able have a beautiful day and great pictures to look back on with happiness.

Even though we cancelled our wedding reception and I lost my job, we also got a fur baby and got legally married. I definitely feel my husband and I are closer than ever after tackling a lot of really difficult things in our first year of marriage and I know someday when we look back we’ll see it prepared us in the best way for our future together ☺️

At the beginning of the pandemic, we had just started planning our wedding and getting things together and then I was furloughed from my job. I was devastated thinking that we'd never be able to swing the expenses without my paycheck and it was a huge stress all summer. BUT December has brought us a few silver linings....I just started my new job today! And that job came with a $20,000 a year raise! As if that wasn't good enough, my FH also got a job offer today and they're offering him a $15,000 a year raise! So we went from really stressing about how we were going to pay for our wedding to now being able to fund it pretty comfortably. I'm so excited for both of us and can't wait to see what the next year holds.

I love this! We had plans for a Valentine's Day weekend trip back in February that we ended up having to postpone until Spring. FH planned to propose on that trip, couldn't wait anymore, and proposed at home. If he had decided to wait, we wouldn't be getting married next summer and we still wouldn't be engaged. Also, my twin sister lives in SC. I really wanted her to be a part of the search for my dress. She visited in early March and I knew I wouldn't see her again until the wedding, so we went out and found the one. A week later the pandemic started. I've literally been blessed with perfect timing. Besides all of these super lucky moments, I've really been enjoying more time with my FH. Our work schedules conflicted a lot before. I've also had so much more time to plan.

Love it! My favorite part about working from home for a while was also getting to spend more time around my cat while I worked. Definitely a silver lining. I love that you were able to avoid stressing about the small things on your wedding day. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes for the new year for you!

Love this! Even after being and living with each other for a little over 7 years, my husband and I are closer than ever. It’s so nice to know that we are not tired of each other even after spending countless hours and days together (of course, we had our moments LOL). In the beginning of 2020 my brother and SIL had their first child and chose me as his god mother. My husband and I got a puppy together in May and she is the best dog EVER. We postponed our July wedding, but still got married —crossing our fingers for our mid-sized wedding in July 2021. 2020 taught me to always have a backup plan & to live in the moment because this was truly an unforgettable year in many ways.

How exciting that your son was born this past year! I'm so sorry that you weren't able to have your wedding earlier, and for all the events that prevented you from having your wedding previously, but it sounds like you'll finally be able to have it soon! Buying a home is also exciting - congratulations on everything! Sounds like you've had some great moments this past year to help offset the pandemic nightmare. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes for the new year for you!

This year absolutely sucked for me in a lot of ways, but the one good thing that happened was I was able to work from home. I wanted to work remote for a while and my boss/company didn't want to do it; I had to get advance approval to wfh 1 day here and there...Well now I've been full time remote for 9.5 months with really no end in sight so far. Company went to 50% in the summer, but I wasn't one of them.

And we adopted our fur baby!

That’s nice what kind of fur baby did you adopt. We’re looking to do so when our son gets a little bit older. He’s a little rough right now lol.
