2021 Silver Linings

Lisa, on December 30, 2021 at 11:08 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 9

2021 carried on many of the challenges from 2020. With the pandemic still strongly existing, there were numerous changes in wedding and life plans for so many people. Travel plans affected. New variants of the virus causing uncertainty. In some areas, constantly changing COVID restrictions forced couples to downsize, postpone, or cancel their weddings.

But as 2021 comes to a close, I always like to look for the silver linings and think about what went well throughout the past year. In the case of my wedding, my fiance and I booked a few vendors earlier this year that we wouldn't have had for our original date (videographer and day-of coordinator). We finalized our ceremony script, wrote our vows, and organized all of our wedding stuff in preparation for next year. We also spent the extra time to find ways to incorporate our own traditions into our wedding.
So, I'd love to end the year on a positive note! Let's hear about your 2021 silver linings: did you get engaged this year? Finally book the vendors you most wanted, but weren't able to book earlier? Build new traditions with your significant other? Did your wedding plans change, and it turned out for the best? What are your silver linings?

I love this idea! We were finally able to have our wedding this year! Originally we had it planned for Oct 2020 but we all know how that turned out. The extra time gave us more time to save up so financially we were in a better place. Family and friends were so excited to be able to get together and celebrate something that I feel it really made our day even more special. It also helped us to focus on what is really important to us and not stress the little things.

So exciting that you were able to have your wedding this year!! Congratulations!! I can somewhat relate - my original date was July 2020, but we postponed to July 2022 thanks to COVID. Awesome that the extra time ended up working out for the best for you - it sounds like your day was amazing! I love that you were able to focus on what was most important and not stress the little things. I think that's advice that everyone can benefit from. Best wishes for you in the new year!

Our June 2020 wedding was at a venue but we postponed and then later canceled. We had our June 2021 wedding in a family member’s backyard and we LOVED the way it turned out. So our silver lining is that our venue changed for the better.

Aww, what a lovely way to look at things. We had to postpone and our hair dresser wouldn’t even look at a single date in a 6-month period (we sent all our vendors a calendar for their availability Thursdays through Saturdays in the hopes of keeping as many of them as possible).

I was so upset about it at the time since I’ve been going to her for over 10 years and she’s done all my friend’s weddings, but it actually worked out for the best.It pushed me to stop visiting her and find someone much closer and cheaper - she had been really unclear about pricing for years, charging me different prices for the same service, and had planned to charge me an arm and a leg for the wedding itself.
The new lady I found is so calm and consultative, plus way cheaper. I love her. The new salon I’m going to for my hair colour is also within walking distance of my house and has an online booking system which is super clear about what you’re paying for. I feel like I should have done this years ago, honestly.

It's funny how things usually work out for the best! It's frustrating that your previous hair stylist wouldn't consider postponing, but awesome that you found someone who is much clearer on pricing, cheaper, and in walking distance! Sounds like a win to me. Best wishes for you in the new year!

Our postponed 10/10/20 wedding turned into a canceled 10/30/21 wedding, which ultimately became a WONDERFUL 10/31/21 Hawaiian elopement.🎉🥰♥️
