2022 Wedding Venues --- Trouble Booking?

Ashley, on August 19, 2021 at 7:51 AM Posted in Planning 0 8
Hey! I'm Ashley and I've been engaged to my fiance since 10/10/2020. We are both grad students on top of working full time jobs so we decided to wait to have a wedding until Fall of 2022. I thought with the date being farther out it would be easy to set a date at a venue we like but it's been the opposite either the venue is already booked up or they aren't booking due to the pandemic. We had one venue we had our hearts set on but they are been severely unresponsive for about 3 months while just trying to put our date into a contract. If I don't find a venue soon we may just end up eloping... Please provide any advise or comments on if this has been your experience as well. Thanks!

I'm so sorry to hear that finding a venue has been challenging! Unfortunately, with all the weddings that were postponed in both 2020 and 2021, many weddings were rescheduled to 2022, so vendors and venues are unusually limited for next year. For the venue that you have your heart set on, have you tried calling them or visiting them in person to get a response? Is your date flexible? If so, maybe consider a Friday wedding or moving to a different date that they have available, or even a winter date. Otherwise, have you checked with non-traditional wedding venues, such as historical libraries, museums, aquariums, restaurants, or nature centers? They may have more availability.

Unfortunately due to the pandemic a lot of weddings have been pushed back until next year. On top of that fall weddings are pretty popular. I have a few different suggestions. You could expand your search area, have it during a less busy time of year, or on a day other than Saturday. The more flexible you are the more likely you will be able to find a venue.

What previous posters said, a lot of wedding are getting pushed back so venues and vendors are getting booked fast. I booked my venue in November 2020 for October 2022 and have been slowly booking vendors this year - I really have one more to book I'm just waiting until I have funds for the deposit. You'll either have to be flexible in what you want or wait until 2023

Try not to lose heart, see if there is a waiting list, and keep calling around, things may open up.
And consider a different date if possible.
I felt like we were really jumping the gun by booking our Oct 22 wedding back in Jan. The vendor said it was filling up and I kinda thought she was doing a hard sell but things are filling up!

Family thought I was crazy looking for my vendors in March of this year for September of 2022 but I am so glad I persisted, all the vendors were telling me they were booking up fast and that they were going to up their prices. Keep looking. Look at changing the date and season, expand your search.

I got engaged in May and was planning on taking the summer to enjoy being engaged and then starting wedding planning after. I was doing some casual looking and started to notice the same thing so I really ramped up my research. I guess I am naive but I didn't think it was going to be so tight with dates!

From what I've noticed- we've had to be pretty flexible. I'm interested in a Fall 2022 wedding and have gotten multiple responses that Saturdays are fully booked in September and October but they have Fridays and Sundays. I expanded my search radius a bit. I live in Brooklyn NY and have looked in the city, upstate NY, Connecticut, and New Jersey. I've sent lots of info requests to lots of different places- even ones that wouldn't necessarily be my first choice but maybe they would grow on me a bit or their services would swing me one way or another.

While not having venue booking issues, I am running into a lot of vendor booking issues for September 2022. I've been reaching out to vendors that you normally don't need to snatch up over a year out, and I'm getting way more "we're already booked for your date" responses vs "we're available!" ones. With a lot of weddings getting pushed out to 2022, it's possible you're still going to run into booked solid vendors even after the venue is secured. Just something to think about. ;[

We had almost the same thing happen! Got engaged in May and I wasn't going to really "start looking" until after a trip we had planned for July. (I'm also looking at a fall 2022 wedding in NY - specifically the Hudson Valley). I emailed a place I had really liked in June just out of curiosity and they were 100% booked for all of 2022. That got me nervous so I started looking and realized how common it was! Either everything was booked or they had 150+ person minimums for Saturday.

We don't want a huge wedding, but I do not want to compromise on fall. So, we decided to look at Fridays/Sundays. We found a place that is very fitting for us that had availability on the last Sunday of Sept an we booked it the day we visited.

Covid has really made planning tricky... and I feel like the NY area is already expensive and out of control - this has only amplified it.
