I don’t think it’s too early. I use The Knot as my wedding checklist. One thing for sure is you need to sit down with your fiancé & discuss budget & guest list.

Hi Katie! Congratulations on your engagement, and welcome to Wedding Wire! I think it's a little early to officially book anything for a 2024 wedding, but it's never too early to start thinking up ideas! Many venues and vendors aren't yet booking for 2024 - some only book a year out, and others will only book two years out. This is often because they periodically change their pricing, and they likely don't know what their 2024 pricing will be yet. You also don't want to risk booking something now, and then changing your mind in two years and wanting to do something different. Same thing with buying a dress now: your style may change over the next few years, or size may change, etc. I would also hold off on asking anyone to be in your wedding party until around a year before your wedding: friendships can and do change, and by waiting, you avoid potentially regretting your wedding party choices.

However, you can start figuring out a budget, estimated guest count (the specific guest list can be determined later), saving up some cash, and thinking up ideas! Look at designs online, check out what venues are around you to get an idea of what you like, look up weddings on Pinterest to see what color combinations you like, decorations, etc. I think it would be a good idea to start officially booking things when you're around two years out. The checklist on The Knot or on Wedding Wire are helpful for keeping you on track with planning. Happy wedding planning!

I don't think it's too early. I feel like I have no time at all. From the proposal to our wedding date it's about a year and I'm 6 months out and feel like I have not accomplished much. Especially with the details and decorations. But now I'm also wondering do I spend the money/rent these items for centerpieces and decor or do I make them myself.

If you start planning and know what you want you can definitely DIY or start saving/compare prices.

I don't think it's too early to start planning, I'm getting married in October 2023 and I want to plan it all because it's so exciting. Definitely start looking at venues and pricing things out, that way you know how much everything will roughly cost and you have a better idea on what to save.

Congratulations! I would be excited plan too - my only concern would be that tastes can change in three years. The flowers you buy now might not be your style later

I think it is fine to start looking around and getting ideas. But it is too early to book anything. Most vendors won't even sign a contract with you 3+ years in advance.

With how crazy the last year is--NOPE! You'll have **** (and maybe even 2022 depending how things go) brides rescheduling where they can and not everyone will get first pick ASAP dates.

However, I agree with don't officially buy/book anything. Don't tie your money up now with businesses but do start to save. A 3 year window to save will be AWESOME!

We've started looking at vendors and set a budget. I think that was the most important part of it all. I already have my dresses and giving my bridal party plenty of time to save for travel expenses and for their attire. I have their dresses already picked out. I have our wedding invitations and save the dates chosen already (of course to match the color scheme of the wedding. We are getting married in GA in the summer and going to have a garden wedding. We have researched many places to have the wedding and we've settled on one in particular (being that it's within the budget.) We are going to take a look at it in July of this year to make sure. I feel that somethings need to be researched thoroughly and more than once. So, I made it a point to get a head start because I want a nice smooth transition when it's all said and done. That way when it's time to write a check, it won't be as hectic. That's my opinion or my ocd talking Smiley laugh
