2nd Job For Wedding

idania, on April 25, 2018 at 12:17 PM Posted in Planning 0 31

Are any other brides out there getting a second job to save for their wedding? FH & I are paying for the wedding ourselves. FH makes good money & can save a lot more than I can. However my parents cannot contribute to the wedding & I want to go 50/50 with him. Part of it is pride, part of it is that I hate putting such a financial burden on him. Any else considering getting a second job or part time job to save for their big day?

My friend did this, she worked at Bath and Body Works part time on the weekends to afford their wedding, all in all though she really had no life because she worked 9-5 M-F and then the weekend at B&BW but it all depends on the sacrifices you want to make for your day. FH and I decided not to get second jobs so we could still spend time with each other and just have what ever kind of wedding we could afford.

I did, I actually did some cleaning/personal assisting for three months to help with payments. It did help a lot. We too are paying 100% ourselves and he makes more money than I do. So far has been 50/50 but the final payments will be pretty much all him and I will "give back" when we get back and my workload gets back on track (the company I currently work cut my hours recently and supposedly they'll reinstate my original hours when we get back - we shall see).

I’m currently looking for a second one, it’s just hard finding a job that needs someone Monday-Thursday. I thought it’d be a good idea to put the second jobs paychecks into a savings account for the wedding

I am picking up overtime once or twice a month at my current job to help pay for the wedding. Thankfully (since my shift is 10 hours, 4 days a week), I still have 2 days a week off when I do this. I wish I could pick time up each week, but both of us have kids and we still want to be able to spend some time together.

We lucked out as my FH can pick up an unlimited amount of overtime at his current job. He has a 4 days on, 4 days off schedule so we were still able to spend a decent amount of time together through the planning process. I wouldn't pick up another job if it meant sacrificing our alone time. I'd rather just cut back on wedding related expenses.

I took on a PT job and I freelanced through Freelancer and did data analysis on the side. My husband cannot work other than his normal PhD duties so I worked my tail off so we could have the budget to host the guests we wanted.

I started working part time in retail to help save for the wedding. During the holidays I was work 3-4 days a week when hours were easy to come by. Now that the store is slower I am only working one day a week but every little bit helps.

I did this, but as it turns out, i can make more overall with my “weekend job” if i take on more hours and quit the weekday job. Plus, then i’ll be able to have more than 1 day off/month, so maybe I won’t go crazy. I have 3 more weeks of both jobs, then i’ll be free (of one)

We talked about me getting a job but then it'd be sacrificing our time together so we opted not to do that. Fiance makes good money but he is already out of town 3-4 days a week so we only see each other half the week as is. We also have kids so having family time together is also a big deal with his schedule. We have made it work by eating out less, & cutting down on our activities that cost alot to only once a month. We are a month & a half away from the wedding with everything paid off so it worked out for us but if that's what you guys have to do not to stress do it just make sure to still make time for the 2 of you as well!

I did. I picked up a per diem respite job where I already work. I did it because I didn't wanna feel like I was going in debt while planning my wedding.

I have a 2 jobs now and looking for a 3rd to cover wedding. FH makes good money but slightly struggling. I have 2 part time jobs that don't pay a lot but that's what I get for the field I work in ( i truly do love my jobs). And my mom can't help out because she can barely pay for what she has now.

Well not particularly BECAUSE of the wedding, I already make more than my FH does, but I started working one day a week at davids bridal, partly because I like it, and partly because they extra cash is nice!

Nothing wrong with earning a bit more money for something you want!

Same, having wedding debt is not something we need/want. Thank you!

Yes I started bartending a couple days a week. FH couldn't add more to his plate and it works because we have dogs at home we couldn't kennel that much anyways (and I'm a people person I LOVE to talk hahahaha). We also got the movie pass it's only $10 a month and you can go to the theater once a day so that helps get us out of the house for 'date night' time but still not really spending much (getting out of the house no matter how short the time is needed lol)

I work in marketing (specifically social media) full-time and picked up a great side gig creating social content for a local business. I like that the hours are flexible (I can pick when I work). If possible I'd totally consider non-traditional jobs in the freelance arena. We've been able to grow our budget considerably while still allowing me to have flexible free time.

I'm all about the random ways to get more income for the wedding, I had a part time job for about 6 months- all my money from there is going towards hair and makeup, and gifts for my bridesmaids- but I was killing myself with the hours, so I bounced as soon as I had enough to cover the cost and tip for everything.

I spend about 15-20 minutes each night taking surveys on QuickThoughts, which is an app where you earn Amazon gift cards. You can cash out every $10, I've made a little over $120 doing that since November, so that money goes toward decorations, and whatever else I can find.

I also use Rev, for transcribing. I haven't made a ton of money from it yet, but I also haven't really spent much time on it.

Not just for the wedding, or a real second job -but I do small bits of contract work here and there and put the money aside. In the past few months I have made a third of the wedding budget that way. I also do surveys online (usually just for Amazon gift cards for trash bags and books), but kicked it up a little. Without much time in, I made about $500 for random stuff for the wedding.
