3 days on St. Thomas enough?

Sam, on July 1, 2021 at 2:23 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 8

Hi all!

My FH and I have FINALLY decide on our honeymoon! We are planning on going to St. Thomas and St. Johns in the US Virgin Islands! We are SO excited! NO passports needed and it looks absolutely HEAVENLY! We plan on staying in St. Thomas for 3 nights- this seems to be the busier more touristy island so we plan on doing touristy things while there. We don't like a lot of crowds and prefer more seclusion when on vacay and figure with it being a MAJOR cruise port, that we will get annoyed by the crowds relatively quickly. With that being said, 3 nights seems just enough! St. Thomas is known for its shopping (beaches of course) and great nightlfe so we figure we could do that for a few days to get that experience. However, knowing us that'll get old fast.

We plan to stay on St. Johns a majority of the time (7 nights) due to it being more our style in regards to 60% of it is a preserved national park/ more adventurous in terms of lots of hiking and gorgeous beaches/ less populated and ALOT less touristy. Also, St.John is just a quick ferry ride over from St. Thomas ( I read somewhere about 20 minutes) since there is no airport on St. Johns you must take a ferry ride over from St.Thomas.

Also, we are staying at Air BnBs on both islands. It is EXTREMELY affordable compared to staying at a resort.

Do you all think staying on St.Thomas for 3 days enough?

Thank you kindly!

Sam

I'd say 5 days no more than 8-10. 3 days seems too short of a time for a honeymoon to me. I'd be worried you'd be leaving too soon after getting there, settling in, doing honeymoon things, and then BAM! Time to go before you're ready!

    Hi there,

We plan on heading over to St.Johns for 7 days after our 3 days in St. Thomas. Do you think 3 days is still short for St. Thomas? So our total stay in the virgin islands will be 10 days.

    Thanks!

I'd say it's a little short for a honeymoon. If it was a regular vacation I'd see no issue with it. If you're contemplating extra days why not call whoever you booked through and ask for a complimentary day or something since you're going for your honeymoon? Smiley smile
Regardless, I'm sure yall will have a fantastic time!

I think three days in St. Thomas would be fine. Also, we went when there were no cruise ships and it’s wasn’t super touristy. They were talking about only letting one ship dock at a time so depending on when you go, it might not be bad. Also there didn’t appear to be a lot of nightlife but it depends on what you’re used too. Redhook had like one bar and some restaurants but not what I would really call night life. They did have the best coffee place (Lattes in Paradise) and it’s right near the Redhook ferry.

    Hi there,

Thank you for your reply! Most of our stay will be over in St. John. But we wanted to experience St. Thomas a little bit and figured 3 days would be enough.

    Thanks again!

I'm so jealous of your honeymoon plans!! I've been to the U.S. Virgin Islands twice with my family, and I think 3 days on St. Thomas and 7 days on St. John is the perfect way to break it up. St. Thomas does get a lot of cruise ships and is touristy. St. John is amazing. It has stunning beaches and is very natural/secluded. Francis Bay on St. John was a wonderful beach. I would recommending renting a jeep and exploring the whole island that way
