3 Months To Work Out

Athena, on July 28, 2015 at 10:00 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 50

Hey! So I am at the three month mark and need to get my butt in gear. I was thinking of doing the barre three month bridal thing but seeing as I know nothing about fitness figured I would through it out to the group.

What is the best way to slim down and tone up for the big day? (can't really bulk up because my dress is already tight). I was thinking barre, kickboxing, crossfit ? I have no idea but I need something that holds me accountable (working out at home does not work). Any ideas or personal experiences are greatly appreciated Smiley laugh

I'm in the same boat as you!! (almost date twins!) I'm trying to get my butt to go to the gym every day, but all this wedding planning has me exhausted and I'm lacking the motivation Smiley sad

    Following for tips as well.

Barre is awesome it helps tone the booty!

I also love body combat(kind of like kickboxing type class) I go to golds gym in my area so these classes are offered. Ugh Ive have been lazy lately though!

HIIT workouts are effective I have also been taking these group training sessions where we do stations and its like 45 seconds of work and like 20 seconds of rest and we go through the sets like 2-3 times.

Your diet will probably make more of a difference in the next three months, honestly. And when it comes to working out, I think that whatever gets you moving and you can stick to, will work!!

I love CrossFit, but it's a pretty extreme workout. You will see results with that though. You just really need to make sure to find a good coach who will properly scale workouts and make sure you have proper form--definitely don't want to hurt yourself so close to the wedding! Any HIIT (high intensity interval training) workout will burn calories fast and be interesting enough that you won't get bored with it. Where are you located? I've seen tons of HIIT/bootcamp gyms pop up around me in the last year or so.

What is this "barre 3 month bridal thing"?? I have a Barre class near me and I'm curious....

But for your question...at the very least get out and do some brisk walking. There's a nearby park that FH and I like to go to that has a 2 mile loop and several park benches around too. We do a brisk walk (we aim for 2 loops, so 4 miles) and a few times around we stop at the benches and use them to do tricep dips and pushups. You could also work in lunges or even running intervals...we use the light posts to measure (run from one light post to the next, then walk for 2 posts, repeat...or whatever your fitness level will allow) Just have to get creative! What REALLY helps me though is taking my workout clothes to work and changing before I leave...and the park we like to go to is close to work (we have a long commute)...so we work out immediately after work and don't wait until we get home. It's too easy to just say "forget it" once we've battled through a long commute and just go home...and the bonus is traffic dies down tremendously while we're at the park, so the drive home isn't quite as bad.

I've been doing interval training most days recently. 45 minutes spread out on 3 stations with weight and cardio exercises. It's a group based personal training class at my gym. I can focus on working out with a set plan and the trainer helps with adjusting the exercises for my injuries.

I started in June. I was wearing size 8 clothes then and now I'm able to zip up size 4 dresses.

It's hard to get motivated a lot of days, but recently, trying on the size 4 and knowing that it looks good now and in a few weeks will look awesome is amazing motivation.

You just need to find what your motivation is.. good luck!

Barre3 is AWESOME!! it tones up your body without adding bulk. It really isn't meant for significant weight loss, but you can lose inches all over. It is brutal the first few times, but I love it. It is low impact so you can add cardio in throughout the week too.

Kickboxing is amazing. I love TITLE classes they have franchises all over the country your first class is free so you can try it without commitment. The also have monthly memberships that you can cancel whenever. And cut out alcohol and a lot of salty foods.

I am in the same boat. Almost three months to go. I have lost a few pounds in the last few months, but I have to get my butt moving. I want to work on my arms, what is good for that?

We are date twins! I have been trying to pull it together also. I am starting (on Monday I promise) to seriously cut back on carbs. I am also a member of gym and share a personal trainer with 3 coworkers (NYSC trainers are too expensive alone, especially when paying for a wedding). I find that having a partner really helps to hold you accountable. I mix up my classes so i don't get too bored and am working different muscles in various ways. I'm interested in trying out a Barre class, I heard they are pretty cool. Also drinks lots of water and cut out the sugary drinks. Good luck!

Portion control. Clean eating. Switch up your workouts. Cardio. Strength training. There are tons of videos on YouTube. I like to use Coach K with HASFit. Look up their website. They give you a workout schedule and all of their videos are online. I've been doing 21 day fix and am on my 3rd week right now. I've lost about 3 pounds and definitely am feeling stronger. Just start trying different things out and see what you like!

Not sure where you are located, but I think barre classes really depend on the studio. I never really lost weight JUST from barre, but I go to Exhale and FlyBarre and find that they are great for adding definition and also they really lift your butt up! Pure Barre, I found to be really boring, but I have heard that is also dependent on the studio and lots of people swear by it.

If you're not already in decent shape, I'd say no to crossfit. they're extreme for people who already work out every day...my supervisor at work is a fitness buff, and he vomits during crossfit workouts regularly. (I don't get the appeal of that. no thank you.)

If you have a gym that offers Les Mills classes, they are kick butt hard work, but fun, and can be adapted to any fitness level. Smiley smile

Other than that, cardio and weight training are great!

I installed the MyFitnessPal app to track my food intake and it worked so well. I lost about 10 lbs in three months, just because I stopped shoving food into my face.

Wow thanks for all the input ladies!! I am out in NoVA which is hard because I definitely am not a self motivator especially with food and all my gfs are either back home in IL or out by Baltimore which is just too far of a hike to keep me honest.

@summer - Pure Barre is offering a three month deal (which is still pretty expensive) until the 31st. I also stopped bringing my clothes to work... pretty much the same time I stopped going to the gym (which wasn't very regular anyways)

I will definitely be looking into the other places everything sounds good!

@lori- I am like super out of shape and have no idea where to start I feel like even the beginner stuff are you out by DC? Any recommendations?

Also if any of you ladies are out by NoVA and want a work out buddy let me know!

I am a pilates instructor and I've done a buttload of barre. It really does nothing for me except maintain weight. If you aren't eating right, you will gain weight. I would do something with a lot of cardio and a little weight training. Maybe try a spin class? with barre on the weekends?
