Hi Everyone!

I am going dress shopping on the 28th for my potentially December wedding (haven't set a firm date due to unpredictable military schedule).

However I have big dress standards with a very small budget.

This is my dream dress:

its like $1-2,000. However, I want to spend $300-500.

My question is should I tell this to the sales lady? I don't only want to try on only ugly, cheap dresses. I am nervous about that. I want to find my "dream" dress. Do salons usually have all price ranges?

Also, I am against David's Bridal! I have had horrible experiences there, and don't know if I will be able to buy a dress there, no matter how inexpensive it is!

Advice?

You CAN find it. All that lace will make it a bit hard as lace is expensive but if you find a dress on a website cheap through a retailer like House of Brides (chicagoland area) or similar and try it on elsewhere to make sure it fits. My dream dress is $690 through the maker but I found it online for $425 and I will try it on then order it online.

Oh! Also, DON'T TRY ON A DRESS NOT IN YOUR BUDGET! Too often women do this (have you seen Say Yes to the Dress) and then are devastated because they cannot afford the dress they love and can't come close! Some even break the budget to buy it! So DON'T try on dresses NOT in your budget. If you can't buy it, what's the point? Not all $500 dresses are bad and look at bridesmaid and prom dresses in white.

I also got my dress from DB and had a delightful experience. My dress was $500, and I went in with an unlimited (in DB anyway, their dresses are all below ****) budget and it was the dress I just fell in love with. I tried on like 15 more afterwards (Vera Wang mostly) and every third dress I wanted to put mine back on.

Afred Angelo also has some reasonably priced dresses.

I have seen websites that custom design wedding dresses for you around that price-range. You can choose from a variety of fabrics, so you get a little idea as to what the texture will be like (and etc). But I know that is a tough thought for some brides to purchase a wedding dress without trying it on first. There are big stores like Group USA, Davids Bridal etc. I'm sure you can find something.

Update: I ended up buying an $800 new dress after all!

I only had to put $400 down (which is like nothing), so I don't really mind spending $800 after all...

Plus, I had it custom laced up, so it will be original and it will fit me perfectly!

I absolutely love and I don't think I could have ever felt this way about an online dress!!!

Its nothing like my dream dress (which I tried on and hated), but I go with the fact, when you know, you know!!!

If you order a dress online, I would recommend ordering from a company based in the US, not China. We are located in California and have a good review rating on weddingwire.com.

For anyone wondering whether a website is from China, we have put together a list of over 3000 sites (and counting) that you should stay away from.

Watch the videos as well to help educate yourself.

You can also share your experience if you ever ordered from one of these sites on our list and help others not to get scammed.
