$3,000 Budget - Is it possible?

Sharonna, on May 2, 2012 at 4:18 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 34

I am wanting to do a wedding with a budget of $3,000 ($3,500 MAX!).

Do you think this is possible? I am very much a DIY kinda girl so I am open to suggestions!

Any tips or suggestions would be much appreciated! TIA!

Also, have you ever heard of doing the ceremony and reception in the same room? Any helpful hints on that would be appreciated as well!

Definetly possible! Lots of ladies on here have done it. Your location, date, time of day and guest list size will all factor into how easy/difficult this budget is, so definetly think about all of those items!

Ceremony and reception can be done in the same room but it would require a changeover between ceremony and reception.

Yes I would do alot of DIY and cut the guest list brutally. I blew my budget for pictures. Right now we stand at about 3500 thats without flowers and catering. Our original budget was $5000 but due to outside influences we have had to cut it back as much as possible. I have about 80 people invited to the reception including us and the bridal party. I was going to do them both in the same room at one venue. But takes alot of planning and the decor there would of cost me alot more than my current venue. For Venues think outside the box. I found a park rental for my bridal shower for my MOH that will cost us just $45 for 3 hours. Museums, B&Bs, histoical homes are all options. Locally we have also city building and meeting rooms we can rent.

Update: My dad works for a hotel that will allow us to use their ballroom. There are 3 "separate" ballrooms but the dividers can be pulled back and made into a larger area. I wouldn't have to use their catering service either. So, any ideas for the menu would be welcome as well! I believe we will have about 100-125 guests.

Welcome to WW! It is definitely possible! Our total price tag is coming in at around $4500 including attire, jewelry, gifts, food, alcohol, cupcakes, rentals, dj, photog, and decor. But thats after spending a nice chunk of change on my dress, his suit, and our rings. Had we been more thrifty in those areas, we would have come in about $500-800 less. The best way to keep the price down is to keep the guest list down. And, yes, we are using the same venue for ceremony and reception. It is a yard, however, that is large enough to have one side dedicated to the garden ceremony, and the other side, the tented reception- no transition needed.

It can be done. My oldest sister had her wedding on a $3K budget.

-she made the grooms cake and wedding cake

    -used their back yard

    -made the kids outfits

    -made her reception dress

-bought her wedding dress for $150 (originally $750)

    -made her own centerpieces

    -they self catered, did bbq

    -made their favors and invites

Check with Brides against Breast cancer to see if they have a gown sale in your area. Almost 2000 of my budget is what your getting for free. I also am paying for all the tuxes and 3 dresses besides my gown so our clothing budget is high.

Also I agree with the other ladies keep your numbers down and find was to cut expenses. All the girls & guys are very helpful and can be blunt when you ask for it.

It's definitely possible, you're going to have a lot of work to do on your own! I would suggest before anything else limit your guest list! Next work out how much a D.J. and photographer would cost because these are two very important things. Then take the rest of the budget and figure out what you have left for food and work out a nice dinner at a good price. A lot of reception venues will work with you if you tell them your budget and the amount of people. Also look into a church wedding they're cheaper and you'd just have to tip the minister.

Yea we're trying too.... probably gonna be closer 3500 once all is said and done.. but we'll see. You can have a gorgeous wedding on that budget.... find things you can use and see what friends you have that are awesomely talented...the way i am keeping costs down are...as of NOW... we're preparing our own food (w/the help of family), my Photographer is a friend who does Photography in NJ, i live in NC, my officiant has her own co., my cousin is doing acoustic guitar at the ceremony... my mom bought my cake as our gift.. YAY...lol... that was unexpected, but awesome.

$3000 is totally doable! My budget was for $2500 and I have exceeded my budget (thanks to my ww friends giving me so many great ideas), and now I am up to $3300. That with a lot of unplanned add-ons!

Many people have the ceremony and reception in the same rooms, I almost did that very thing to save money.

It will prove beneficial that you are DIY kind of person, I would have spent much more if I had paid someone to do many of my projects.

Dollartree, Ebay, and oriental trading are some of my best friends right now! These ladies are awesome on ww post questions, they always have answers and read plenty of posts, they have at least $800 worth of ideas on my budget, lol.
