36" Balloons for center pieces? Inspiration PIC included

Elizabeth, on September 5, 2013 at 11:15 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 10

I Absolutely Love the idea of the balloons our reception area have 26 foot ceilings and I want to totally do the 1 balloon over each table with lace and like a navy and a coral ribbon to hide the strings. My biggest issue is what to connect it to. We are on a tight budget now because I over spent on a few things so I am kinda looking for inexpensive ideas. I got a really great deal on 12x12 square mirrors that i was going to use for centerpieces. I was thinking maybe glitterized wine bottles or something idk I NEED YOUR HELP!

That's really cute...what if you paint some wine bottles white or ivory (you've got plenty of time to start collecting those...), and roll them in epsom salt for some texture, and attach them either to the outside of the bottle, or to something heavy inside it (so the ribbon comes out of the bottle) with some sparkly curlicue wires? Just a DIY idea...Pinterest probably has zillions.

Love the ballon idea. it's very beautiful. however,i'm not overly creative solo can't help too much there. i just had a thought of maybe using small sand filled balloons to hold them down?? at any rate, hope you find something easy and reasonable.

Oh thats beautiful! never seen anything like it. it really makes a statement! i love the idea of glittery wine bottles. i think i would also like a glass goblet filled with those little plastic diamonds in it. glue or securely tape the string from the balloon to the bottom, fill the goblet with the diamonds and then scatter some around on the mirrors.

A note on glittery wine bottles, I made about 12 last year for our Christmas party and it was quite a headache. I followed instructions I found on Pinterest and it was almost a huge fail. The glitter spray paint did not look anything like the pictures. I ended up painting the bottles white first, then using the glitter spray paint. However I went through about 6 bottles to get a good, thick coat.

Yeah I have been looking on pinterest there isn't very much for balloons at all I think most people imagine a birthday party when I tell them. I am all about the DIY Our colors are coral and Navy blue and I wrapped a couple bottles in coral yarn because I liked that idea but now I am kinda iffy about it.

The sand filled balloons is a great idea I didn't even think of that I was trying to figure out something that would be small enough to fit in the hole but still be heavy. Maybe is I stick the balloon in and wrap the top around the neck so I cant put a bunch of sand in then tie it and then tie the string around it to hole the balloon and drip it into the bottle.

I like the Glitter bottle idea , the DIY I saw said to use mod podge and roll them in glitter so we will see if that works any better then the spray I am not making definite decisions but my mom and there friends drink lots of wine so its very in expensive and I can just collect the bottles lol

My worry with taping the balloon string to the bottom would be that these balloons have so much helium in them I feel like they might still would float away.

I have quiet a bit of the stuff already because we were suppose to do this next June but my husband got deployed and wont be back until after our original date so we decided to put it off for another year because he will be out of the military by then and we wont have to worry about deployments anymore.

Have you priced out the cost to blow up the balloons?

This post says $200 for 4 balloons

Yes I have My husband used to weld so we are friends with a local gas company where we are going to rent one of those big helium tanks to blow the balloons up at the location , this way we wouldn't have to rent a freaking u haul to take them to the venue as well.

I know this is an old thread, but I see your wedding is still a couple years away! Have you worked with balloons like this before? This will probably be more time consuming than you think and can't be done too far in advance with out some extra work. If you want to do them the day before, they will need to have an additive on the inside and coated with another product on the out side to keep them looking fresh. I would at least consult a professional balloon artist, they can offer lots of ideas you probably haven't thought about. Be sure to do some test balloons if you plan to DIY.

FYI...It takes 15 cf of helium to fully inflate a 3' latex balloon, so be sure you have enough helium!
