40 pounds in 2 month...doable?

vicky, on March 27, 2013 at 9:49 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 33

Ok so in the past 2 yes I've gained 40 and it's making me nuts now that a wedding is a reality. The problem is I've been too happy and comfortable to card, but it isn't healthy at all.. I'm having an engagement party this Memorial Day & I want to wear a cute dress & be happy to be in photos again. I'm not talking about diet pills or shots...just diet & exercise. I work 40-50 hrs a week in my fiance's pizza place & I'm a full time law student so extra long activities are hard to commit to. I know I have to stop all fried things & pizza & go back to the gym but I need some pointers and support/motivation. TIA girls :-)

    Probably not.

It is "safe" to lose about 2 pounds a week. There are 8 weeks in 2 months. Therefore, it is "safe" to lose about 16 pounds.

I think the best you can do is continue to eat healthy, fresh (unprocessed) food, and do a daily workout with cardio AND strength training.

Edited because I can't count weeks in a month lol

The most I've ever been able to lose in a week is 5lbs and not consistently. Average (and healthy) weight loss is 1 to 2 lbs a week.

Definitely not healthy! I believe you could succeed in losing about half of that, as about 2 pounds per week sounds more doable.

    I 120% agree with PurpleSun - 2 pounds a week & clean eating with cardio & strength!

    Good luck!

Also, the reason some people are able to lose a ridiculous amount of weight in a few weeks is because they take some unhealthy diet pill or they are wayyyyyyyyyy overweight and so the actual amount of weight they lose is a small percentage of their overall weight.

Losing weight fast is extremely unhealthy. I had a friend in college who stopped playing football and dropped like a hundred pounds in just a few months. He has heart problems now. It is NOT worth it.

No, it isn't. honestly, without some horrific illness and or sudden onset of a major eating disorder it would be nearly physically impossible to lose that amount of weight in that time frame. on top of that - it would be INCREDIBLY dangerous and unhealthy and you certainly do not want to be sick for your wedding.

i used to be a certified personal trainer, and we had extensive training in diet and health in addition to the physical part -- so i am telling you this with some amount of insight and mostly concern for you.

the recommended and proven weight loss - through a combination of diet and exercise is 2lbs per week -- meaning that in 2 months you could lose 16 pounds. that being said, if you push hard and are vigilant - you could lose more than that. please bear in mind that pushing your body and making drastic changes in diet can cause injury and illness -- which means you would not be able to continue working out and you would not get yourself any closer to your goal.

40 pounds in 2 months is pretty extreme. Just eat healthy and exercise. Once you start exercising and building muscle, you will feel loads more confidant regardless of what the scale says.

@Mrs Whitty - Men and women lose weight differently from each other. If you look at the food pyramid (or myplate or whatever it is now), you can see that whole grains are essential to a balanced diet. It isn't really sustainable in the long run.

Men lose faster than women. best to eat clean and healthy with exercise. 40lbs in 2 months is ridiculous and not healthy.

Also, purple sun is correct about the 2 pounds per week ( on average - some weeks will be more, some less), but last I looked at a calendar, 2 months = 8 to 9 weeks, not six. That should put you around 16 - 18 pounds lost.

It also depends on your current weight, diet and lifestyle. i have to disagree with @Future Mrs. Whitty - as we all know, men tend to drop weight more drastically when making major dietary changes, their physiology is just not the same as womens.

i do agree with her recommendations, however, one of the easiest ways to start losing weight is by changing your diet. not only WHAT you eat, but WHEN you eat. cutting carbs - think anything with white flour and definitely cut sugar - and YES even diet "no calorie" soda... those are rife with chemicals that play with your metabolism on top of being unhealthy.

lean proteins, veggies, raw and natural foods, lots and lots of water... regular exercise... you have plenty of time to make a substantial healthy change before your party!

I agree w/@PurpleSun, I've only lost 25lbs in 8 mo. so in my experiance...not doable. Lower your carbs, drink plenty of water reduce or eliminate all grains especially wheat rice, oats & soy they cause belly bloat as well as O.J. & help you retain water. Drink stevia sweetend beverages instead of diet, soda's or fruit juices even the one that say all natural or 100%. You'll get some weight loss for sure but not 40 lbs. & Definately work out for at least 30 min. 5-6 days a week. Weight lifting & running gives the quickest results but there are all sorts of workouts on YouTube to choose from as well. Good luck with everything!

Is there a way I can delete my comment? I was just trying to lend encouragement. I know dieting is extremely hard and discouraging. Everybody loses weight differently.... Please disregard my comment about dieting.

I think you could lose 16-20 pounds safely in 2 months.

@Mrs. Whitty - it is hidden now, but if people had the thread open before you hid it, they would be able to see and comment on it. I do also want to mention that while it is nice to be encouraging, there can be disastrous results sometimes as a result of false hope. Not trying to lecture you or anything, I'm just saying...

I think that's a lot but you can probably lose half of that.. When I started exercising I know I lost 5 lbs in a week.. I followed my diet plan and worked out everyday.. But I didn't lose 5 lbs every week.. Like everyone says 1-2 lbs a week is healthy but it depends on your weight and how active you are.

Personally, I hate when people say "I don't have time for XYZ." I've been in that boat, but when I REALLY look at how I'm budgeting my time, I realize that if I really want it, I have to make time. I think it's possible, but it's going to be a tremendous undertaking.

IMO not doable. Like others have said with eating properly an exercise 16-20lbs is more realistic.

    Good luck
