43 days out- hair and makeup artist cancelled.

Allie, on July 19, 2019 at 12:02 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 19

I was already having trouble finding someone to just do my hair and makeup (no bridal party), and the girl I hired just cancelled. I had already been considering DIY hair and makeup because I was having such a hard time finding someone or it would be $500 just for my hair and makeup. This girl was willing to do my hair and makeup for a reasonable price but she backed out today. I've still got time to practice, but I'm kind of at a loss now. My cousin's can help with the makeup. I'm just trying to find a hair style that is easy to do. Any tips? I wanted an updo but may have to settle for half up half down.

I'm so sorry this is happening to you! If you really want an updo, maybe you could watch YouTube tutorials!

Do you have a regular hairstylist you go to? Reach out and see if they could do it or know anyone that can.
Sephora’s makeup counter is another option for your makeup. They generally do it for “free” as long as you buy something, a lot cheaper than a hired makeup artist.

It is a destination wedding so my normal stylist won't work. I'm mainly concerned about finding someone for hair. I can do the makeup myself.

I'll definitely be checking out YouTube videos tonight. Hopefully I can find something simple.

Sorry this happened! Do you have a normal hair stylist that could style your hair the morning of at the salon? If not, ask your friends and family who they use. You could also watch YouTube videos and practice. I hope you find a solution!!

I am sorry to hear about that Allie! Is there someone from your family or friends that are invited that could help? Can you look at the beauty schools that are around your location for your wedding and see if someone could help there? Or like you said Youtube oh and Pinterest can really help! You got this!

Oh that’s a shame! If you do end up using Youtube, you can try that videocamera mirror trick so you can see what you’re doing a little easier. You could also ask your regular stylist if she could teach you how to do a simple updo.

I'm so sorry this happened! Any of your bridesmaids or family somewhat good with hair? Like, I am horrible at doing any kind of braid or updo on my OWN hair but I can be really good at styling someone elses hair. Is there anyone who can help you?

Are there any local salons? That’s what I did— I was overwhelmed trying to figure it out from far away (we got married where my parents live), so I asked my mom to ask her stylist and they said “ohh we can totally do that!” So I just went for it. I *did* do a trial and made some adjustments , but. I was never gonna not go with them .

I saw you’re getting married in Huntsville. I’m getting married fairly close to Huntsville and am using McKenna at Salon 4:14 in Athens for hair & makeup! Her prices are super reasonable, and she doesn’t have a minimum number of people requirement.

Ugh. I'm sorry you're dealing with this added stress. It looks like youtube has a decent amount of tutorials for "DIY wedding updo."

Definitely check out YouTube tutorials!! There are so many out there that can help you figure something easy but elegant out! That’s how I ended up decided on mine, and I am DIY hair and makeup as well. Definitely set aside some time to figure out what you want and if you can do it, and what I did was once I found the style I liked, I took photos of each stage as I undid the style, so I could see how to replicate it! It definitely can be done!!

Yeah youtube will be your best friend. As my mom always says, less is more. Sometimes keeping it simple isn't a bad idea. I would look around for another stylist and in the meantime just watch tutorials in case you don't find someone? I'm sorry! Best of luck

Check out Yelp for salons in the area! Or if you use Instagram try searching hashtags or sometimes photographers/ wedding planners will tag the brides hair and makeup artist.

I HIGHLY suggest The Small Things blog. She has amazing tutorials that are very easy to follow for simple up do styles (you can watch her videos on youtube for full tutorials). I think the key is small clear rubber bands and curled hair with as much texture as you can get. You can do this!!

Can any of your girls braid? If so a pretty braid with ribbon of wedding colours and or flowers tucked in would be pretty. You could do a French braid to base of head and leave the rest of hair curly and down....
my hair is knee length so I’m looking at that style.

If you or your cousin can braid and wand curl your hair you should be able to pull either ofv these looks off. I think they are pretty
