5 minute wedding?

So we met with another officiant the other day and he told me that typically weddings are closer to 5 minutes than the 30 minutes I am allotted at my venue. How can this be?? I guess it all depends on if you have readings and people speaking and whatnot but a 5 minute wedding? That seemed really strange to me...then again, I've never been to a wedding NOT in a church before (like ours will be). Maybe w/o all the formality of a church wedding, it's super short?

Thirty minutes usually allows for the processional and the recessional.

Ours will be pretty short, IDK about five minutes. But we'll probably just have a few non-religious readings, the unity candle, vows, rings, kiss, bam. Done! Time to party! Haha.

When my sister got married, my grandmother overheard one of my brother in law's relatives on the phone saying "don't worry if you are 15 minutes late, it's a catholic ceremony, you won't miss the good stuff."

At which point my grandmother turned around and said "actually, the bride is Jewish and insisted on a Jewish wedding... They will miss the whole ceremony."
