50/50 Tickets!?

Future Mrs. S, on July 4, 2012 at 11:54 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 24

Hey ladies! My Dad and Step-mom think that we should sell 50/50 tickets at our wedding because one they're going to this weekend is doing it. When I mentioned it to my Mom she says that my Auntie also suggested it! Is it just me or does it seem kinda tacky?

Selling anything at the wedding is tacky. I have no clue what 50/50 tickets are- but a wedding is a celebration of your union. It is not a place to collect money from your friends...

Yeah we are passing on it, was just wondering if anyone else (like some of my family) thought it wasn't tacky!

@Meghan B. 50/50 tickets are tickets that you sell for whatever $$ amount, and then at the end of the night you do a draw. The person with the winning ticket gets half the money, the people selling the tickets get the other half.

Yeah- that just mad eit 10 times worse. It's a wedding, not a place for a raffle.

Haha that sounds like what FH said, "It's a wedding not a hockey game!".

I'd skip it. If I went to a wedding with a raffle I think I'd go home.

@ future mrs s. your FH took the words right out of my mouth.

people are spending money coming there, getting an out (usually), buying a gift, getting a baby sitter...i would pass on the 50/50 tickets, and they wedding your parents are going to this weekend is tacky.

I think this could be a cultural thing, just like the dollar dance (many opinions on that!) With that being said, I also would NOT do the raffle...!

Hmmm... different. I've never been to a wedding that did that, and i would feel a little weird to do it at mine. But I guess I could understand the people who suggested it were just trying to help you out while making it a little "fun" for the guests. I would have to agree with the girls on this one tho. I wouldn't do it personally at my wedding but I guess like Jill said it could be the same thing as the dollar dance or having to pay money to dance with the bride for a song....

Wow, this is a first for me. This is something we do at beef and beer fundraisers. It's not a beef and beer, it's a wedding. Good instinct!

Yeah way tacky good job on saying no. We did this at a bar I used to work at. Half would go to the winner the other half would go to the bar. Hmmmm.

No on that. Do a dollar dance instead if it is common in your area. That way you keep all the money.

I've seen it done at Jack & Jills, Showers, Bachelor/ette parties, but never at the actual wedding...

I would have to pass on that one...
