5Th year vow renewal!

Emily, on June 18, 2020 at 2:15 PM Posted in Married Life 0 16
*i know 5 year and vow renewal really get people on WW fired up, I’m not here for that. I just kindly want HELPFUL POSITIVE advice.

Next year my husband and I will have been married 5 years. (Together for 8 total) In our 5 years, we’ve been through a good bit. •had a kid•moves away from family•our kiddo got pretty sick which cause financial crisis that put our marriage through a VERY trying time. •while dealing with a BAD financial situation we took in my teenage cousin to raise (my husband and I are in our mid twenties 🤪)•got our finances back to a great place•husband will graduate college next yearAnd our marriage is at such a good place and I feel like we’ve really went through a lot in 5 years and almost everyone I know our age have already separated.
Now, that’s our whole reason for wanting to throw a big party. Not another wedding. To have everyone around us to celebrate what we’ve been though, who stood with us, offered advice and support. I want to do a vow renewal but I also want it to be a big BBQ type event.
Here are my thoughts:•a photographer just for the fact of•wearing my wedding dress from our wedding•no “bridal party” have our two boys walk with me•the people who have been there with us through it all•a BBQ type thing that we provide •invites
But I’m stumped on where to hold it at? I thought about our original venue which is a family members land, but we’re not on great terms with them anymore. I don’t know if I should rent out a venue or what.
Also, have any of you done a 5 year vow renewal? If so, describe it allllllll to me!

Depending on your guest list if it's small enough you could look for restaurants with private rooms or private patios

That’s a great idea! I hadn’t even thought about that! I’ll have to roughly think of a guest list and see what the numbers look like.

If you aren't on great terms with your relatives who own the land, I would definitely look elsewhere. As Melle suggested, I would start by coming up with how many guests and your budget and then look for venues from there that will meet those 2 requirements.

My parents did something similar for their 45th anniversary. They rented a big converted AirBnB barn that turned into a condominium (called the Barndominium) that had huge backyard for tables, volleyball court, patio, ping pong, etc. We had BBQ catered and a friend play acoustic guitar for us and it was such a blast. We even had a diy photo wall for selfies and boozy popsicles since it was Texas Summer and hot 🥵 There were enough rooms at the condo for family to stay the weekend and friends and coworkers all drove in for the main party day. Look at BnB options that allow for large parties.

I hate that it’s this way, I think it’d be so nice to have it there again, but I do like the idea of a restaurant patio or something!

I'm not sure where you're located / number of guests you're planning on or even your budget - One of our early wedding plan ideas was to rent a B&B for the weekend and have those we were inviting stay there (There were 8 bedrooms and 22 people in total at the time). The B&B was on the ocean and they were going to do everything for us including the catering. All we would have to do is get an officiant and wedding insurance. - So maybe there is something similar to your original wedding location that is an B&B so you could almost recreate your day in a new setting.

Thank you! Our wedding was on our families “farm”.

That’s so exciting! We’re on our 3rd year but I TOTALLY want to do a 5-year vow renewal! Just us, in Hawaii or some beautiful island.

How many guests? I would think a venue would just be easier. To keep costs down, what about a weekday evening? BBQ restaurant, rooftop bar, small historic museum auto museum, winery, zoo?

We had a 5 year vow renewal planned ...it got cancelled due to CVIOD 19 . we were planning big as an actual wedding bc our first wed wasnt what we ideally wanted. I'll say have it in a local park or a location that you feel you can have BBQ food....like grill food right??? Or you can actually go alot more formal and have it at a venue. I feel 5 years of marriage is big and it means alot...so go for it...
We wined up having at home viw renewal with us and our 2 kids bc of us cancelling.we did upgrade new rings...that made us happy!!! Good luck im here if you need more advice

I am so sorry that COVID got in the way, but I am glad you guys still went ahead with it!

As much as I would love to get off cheap at a park, I don’t have any near that I think would be what we want. I’m going to have to keep looking.
I agree with you, I think 5 years, especially this day in age, is a milestone.
Did you plan to buy a new actual wedding dress? I plan to just wear mine again (if I can fit in it lol) because I just feel like that would be so neat/special.

This sounds super sweet! I kinda hate vow renewals but feel like when there has been a lot you have gone through together it can be nice to come together and celebrate your marriage and commitment and having the great network of people who love you and support you.

How many people are you thinking? I personally wouldn't worry about finding a "wedding venue" and feel like a private residence (either family/friends or rent an vacation home/AirBnB), park, or restaurant could be great for this sort of thing.

I honestly haven’t calculated and reflected on who all, but I am loving the idea of an Air B&B or something along those lines.

That sounds AMAZING. Go for it!!!!! Me and my husband got married this past August and we both said we're doing a vowel renewal at 5 years! Love is a beautiful thing to celebrate.

I say go for it!! I plan on having a 10 year vow renewal on a tropical island somewhere. The whole point of renewing your vows it to celebrate your marriage, all that you've been through together, and re-dedicating yourselves to one another in holy matrimony. Don't let any of the negativity get to you!! A BBQ sounds great. Maybe look into someplace like a state park? A fire hall is another option. Try searching on here for venues or just google it. I know there's a place near me that's a clambake grove place. I've been there for a work related party before and it was great. Maybe you can find something like that near you?
