6 month smile?

HOLLY, on July 23, 2014 at 3:59 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 15

I'm very self conscious my teeth. I have a lot of work that needs done, like crowns and such. I've been told that I have trouble with cavities b/c my teeth are crowded and I need braces. My parents couldn't afford braces when I was younger, so here I am at 24. Has anyone tried the 6 month smile? They're like clear brackets, and you can only tell if someone is up real close? I'm getting married Oct 2015, so regular braces are kind of out of the questions b/c of way my teeth are. I plan on getting the crowns and such this year and next, but I was just curious if anyone has the 6 month smile braces.

THanks!

Invisalign was the best thing that ever happened to me!

I don't know anything about the 6 month smile braces but i would think that as long as you are having them done at a reputable dental office with a dentist you trust then I think it should be okay.

I was 24 when I did invisalign and i think it took 36 weeks total for me (top and bottom) but each person is different... get a professional opinion

A friend of mine did the 6 month smile thing. She said the cost wasn't as bad as full on braces, but it's still not cheap. I hear Invisalign costs about the same as traditional braces, but it's not noticeable.

Just depends on what you can afford really. She wore them for 6 months, and took them off maybe a couple of weeks before her wedding. She had no complaints about them.

I can't speak specifically about 6 Month Smile, but I had braces when I was 28, and opted for the clear brackets (which look very much like 6MS). They are definitely way less noticeable than standard metal brackets. My treatment time was 17 months total, and it was absolutely worth it.

Ditto what GameCox and Vanessa said. I have never heard about 6 month smile. But I would say that changing trays (or for real braces...getting them tightened) hurts...and you need the time for it to adjust..your moving teeth ya know. I don't know if 6 months will fix things that quickly or that you would want them to.

You just feel good about yourself. If you can get it done, if not don't worry about. I'm sure the man of your dreams says it's not a big deal. Wishing you well.

I have heard good things in the dental field, but it depends on your situation if the teeth would need to be moved a great deal there could be problems down the road from moving them too quickly. Get a couple of opinions before making a choice, and invisiline had come a long way over the pay few years it may be possible as well.

If you just need a few teeth moved then 6 month smirk might be the right thing. If you need more movement you might want to look into Invisalign. I'm doing Invisalign right now, I like it. They've come along way in the past few years. No one can tell I have them.

I was told that I wasnt a candidate for Invisalign by one dentist, but told yes that I was by another. I did end up getting the invisalign and it wa great. I do think that it is expensive though, but then again, so are all braces i guess.

I have 6 month smile.. it's cool.. I didn't need a lot of movement though.. from my understanding, if u are a candidate for invisaline, u can get 6 month smile.. I choose 6 month smile because once they are on u don't have to do anything else.. invisaline, u have to constantly take them out and put them in.. and it can take a year or more for the same movement.. additionally lost a ton of weight.. can't eat everything like I used to.. lol

I have full braces on because my issues with my teeth relate more to a jaw misalignment than crooked teeth so I wasn't a candidate for Invisalign. But I got lingual braces, which attach to the back of your teeth. Initially I was going to wait until after the wedding because I was worried they would be noticeable but I went ahead and no one can tell I've got them. They are more expensive than standard braces because the brackets are custom made, but by the time I calculated what it would cost to have standard braces attached, then removed for the wedding, then put back on again, there wasn't a huge difference. Plus vanity was a consideration! Here's a picture from my wedding, with full metal (upper and lower) braces attached.

I was not able to get invisalign either but my orthodontists will be taking my braces off the weeks before my wedding and putting them back on when we return from my honeymoon. They said this was no problem. You may want to look into getting them and just having them taken off. After about a year your teeth will be relatively straight anyway. It's worth asking about.

I have used 6 month braces with the help of Dr.Silberman at Houston since I needed to move my 4 upper front teeth, and it was very effective. Since you need teeth movement in a short time period it will better to choose 6 month braces instead of fixed bridges or crowns.
