6k-12k e-rings

Mrs.L, on October 22, 2013 at 10:06 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 69

I was talking to my Best friend/moh and I mentioned for our one year anniversary I want to upgrade my e-ring. Not that I don't love it, I just want it in a bigger version. Im at 1.75 and just going to 2 makes a huge difference on my finger. I mentioned that since it was pretty pricey (around 6k) it is worth waiting to do. She then said well most rings are between 6k-12k, so when I get engaged its gonna be extravegant. It made me feel like if my ring on the low side of "how much it should cost". I know I shouldn't care how much money was spent, but having your best friend basically say FH only spent the minimum was a little hurtful. I know its dumb, but I can't help but feel like she made my ring sound cheap and something she would never consider. I think all rings are gorgeous. No matter the price. It truly is the thought and a symbol. But... at the same time if I could upgrade then why not? I just dont have to upgrade to a 20k ring! Thats about half of our wedding budget! Vent over

You weren't. Thats the whole problem with what she said- the normal e-ring is 6-12k. That is far from true.

    Does she have a ring?

My ring was only 1,745 with taxes and insurance! It's beautiful to me and honestly I'm pissed he spent that much. I don't care how big or small it is or how much it cost. A ring does not prove how much he loves you. I'd prefer his actions toward me and for me versus the materialistic things he can buy for me. I don't need a 12K ring to be loved. It's nice to have but not everything! Tell her that! You shouldn't feel bad as long as you know your FH loves you!

She doesn't! She don't even have a boyfriend! She only dates "successful" men. Which also gets on my nerves. Like- I really don't want to say anything bad about her cus I love her. But she really is a gold digger and brags about it. I try to stay away from the money talk a s much as possible. Then all she talks about is men. Shes currently dating this douche. He did her dirty and she hates him one day adores him the next. He didnt even wish her a happy bday! She totally acts sooo busy when I want to get together and she for some reason drops the world to hang with him. FH doesnt even like this guy! And FH gets along w everyone!

Yeah... My ring was a set and cost about 1500. Wouldn't change it for the world.

I have no idea how much my ring cost, but it was not 6k. I would have KILLED FH for spending that much on a ring. OMG.

You know, when I first started thinking about engagement, I thought the same thing your friend did...anything relatively nice looking is going to cost at least 6k. And then I started to realize how idiotic and unrealistic that is for most people. Although mine is close to that, and I will probably upgrade sooner or later, I honestly would have taken ANYTHING, as long as we were finally engaged. I think once you actually fall in love, the logistics of everything become obsolete, and the only thing you care about is being with that person, even if it means having a cheap(er) ring. I think your friend will figure that out too eventually, or she will die alone.

    Either way.

I'm with @Paris. He'd be buried. My ring was $2,000 and that was only because he took me back to get an antique band to add to my set that I fell in love with since we didn't get an antique set! Smiley smile And they came with LIFETIME plans.

Either your friend is really misguided about the real world or she is trying to make you feel bad. If the one you have is 6k then yea I'd wait..I suppose it depends on your disposable income (like if you have 100$ bills as toilet paper lol)..but imo it's wasteful.

What a rude thing to say! I think it just depends on the guy's budget. I would never want him to drain his savings and eat pb&j sandwiches for months to buy me a ring. Mine is not as big as I wanted orginally, but i LOVE it. He mentioned an upgrade one day, and I told him that was out of the question, it's perfect. But then mine was about $6500. I think he's done his part, well unless we hit the lottery.

FH and I went and looked at rings before we were engaged and I told him I don't want anything that expensive because we wanted to buy a house and stuff. Also we had been together for so long that I just wanted to get engaged so I didn't care what he bought! The ring he bought me was $6,000 and when I took it to get appraised for insurance and found this out I almost killed him. My ring isn't huge or anything, I think it's about 1.25, but he took his time to make sure he found the perfect diamond and also chose to have platinum instead of white gold. He is really proud of my ring because he did it on his own and he loves when I show it off or when he catches me staring at it. I love my ring and I never want to upgrade and I hate when people make comments about how big or expensive a ring should be!

I picked out my ring with my BEST FRIEND there! She helped me. My E-Ring isn't even an actual engagement ring. It was a collection they had going for a Valentine's day special (matching earrings, necklace, and ring) which was a total of $100! I could care less about the price of the damn ring. My dream ring is a solitare princess cut diamond which I could get for less than $600. Maybe in a few years I'll get that ring. $6k ring? I agree with paris and that's almost the rest of my car loan I still owe, be thankful for what you got!

Lol. her saying the price range that normal e-rings usually come in... total bs. that is so ridiculous.

the real "rule of thumb" when it comes to how much to spend on an e-ring is is two months annual salary. but that is SO OUTDATED. it shouldn't matter... scratch that, it doesn't matter how much is spent.

FH spent way more than i expected and i absolutely LOOOVE my ring. it's freaking perfect. it's exactly what i wanted "dream ring" wise. lol. i honestly would have been happy if he'd spent just a couple hundred. it's the thought that counts. i'm so happy to just being marrying him. Smiley smile

i would have died if he'd spent 6k. lol. i think he only spent half that and i'm still like *choke*

Yeah, the 2 month annual salary thing is EXTREMELY outdated!

If that were the case I'd be sitting with a 12k ring on my finger and I didn't want anything that big!

I had a friend this past weekend say the same thing, though. It was awful! She said she wanted one, big ass, perfect clarity rock and she doesn't care if cost 20k to get it. If he can't afford it, then he can't afford her.

She obviously hasn't shopped for rings, yet.

When FH and I first started looking at rings we were looking at the 10k range.... soon after he had an accident at work and didn't get workman's comp and had to pay for surgery and physical therapy out of pocket so, we dropped down to 5k but then the bills started coming in and it was all too much so, now we're looking at the 1k-2k range for our official engagement ring... I would take a cracker jack box ring if it meant that we would be a step closer to being married. It's not about the price but the love and devotion behind it... you're friend will see the importance one day....

Thanks ladies!! I thought it was just me being overly emotional because of Aunt Flow (sorry if TMI).

@Hilery OMG! Sounds like my best friend.. Either there is more of them kind of girls out in the world or you know my friend!

@Ashleigh- Lol, haha I say that all the time about hitting the lotto!

@KirstenMichelle and all the other ladies who said it really doesn't matter the size or price of the ring once you fall in love, all that becomes irrelavent. Love has no price tag, well at least true love!

And that is why she's still single! Please disregard her ignorant, unfounded, shadetree comments. She better hope one of her "successful" men gets her a Blow Pop ring!
