7 months to go - dress won't zip

FutureMrs92317, on February 24, 2017 at 6:09 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 13

I weight through some health stuff last year resulting in substantial weight gain, mostly in the bust. My dress fits well everywhere else, but it's about 4 inches from zipping. I realize I have sometime, despite my best efforts I am down 8lbs since December but have lost nothing in the boobage dept. I went to visit my alteration lady so I don't panic to which she states, "why you no lose more weight??" Ummm im working on it, Lin. I didn't picture a corset back but thinking of changing the back of my dress if I don't lose the boobs before September. Has anyone changed their dress to add a Corset?

My sister changed her dress to a corset. It was really expensive! But it's probably cheaper that buying a new dress.

I've heard of lots of people doing that, and I think that it would look nice with that dress. If I were you, I'd probably ask her when is the latest she would need to know if you wanted to change to a corset. That way you can see if you need to once you are at that date. I feel like most people don't get alterations until 2 months out, so you probably have some time. Sorry you are going through that though, no fun Smiley sad

Yes I have big boobs and I am paying for my zipped back to be changed to a corset back. I feel it's helpful if I lose any weight before the wedding, also I can adjust it though out the night in case my dress starts to loosen from dancing. I say go for it. That way you won't be so stressed.

My stylist assured me that altering the dress to a corset back was cake. (Bc of the dress I chose) and would only cost $75! She said that with the corset it also might mean I won't need any alterations at all! Now if I just cross my fingers hard enough that the length is good...lol

I work at Davids bridal as a stylist and adding a corset to that dress is totally doable. The cost would probably be around $150 which is the cost of the back panel, loops, satin string to lace it up, and labor. However, if you dont want a corset back added, have you talked to the store manager to see if they can exchange it for a size up?

@laura, I found your 'be happy you have a figure' comment to be pretty rude. You can't tell OP what she should and shouldn't be happy about just because you'd prefer a larger chest. Clearly it's a situation she feels uncomfortable with.

Sorry to semi-hijack your thread, OP.

I'd say if you like the look of a corset, it's in your budget, and you're okay with changing your original dress, then go for it. It'll probably make you feel less stressed out about losing weight/boobage and will hopefully let you focus more on just being healthy and knowing your dress will fit whether you lose the weight like you want to or not. You will be just as beautiful either way!

Had my zipper backed dress changed to a corset. I love the way it looks and fits now.

Like 4 inches from the top of the zipper or the zipper is 4 inches apart still? A dress size usually goes up in 2 inch increments

Why are they doing fittings so early? I'm not going for my first fitting until May 27 and my wedding is July 8.
