7 years in the making and just got engaged two days ago 1We would love to do a destination wedding ( beach ocean view) but we don’t have a huge budget. We have people from different countries so that’s a challenge. I’m very excited about this new phase in our lives but we’re worried we can’t do the weeding of our dreams because of budget. Any suggestions? What to do? How to start ? We would like to do in a church or at least is accepted by the Catholic Church. Thank you so much for any input

Where in the country are you now, and what area of beach are you looking at?

If you want to be "accepted" by the Catholic Church, it has to be in the Catholic Church. They do not recognize anything else. A destination wedding would make this difficult, because most parishes have their own rules and need to know you. I suggest talking to your own priest.

When you say "not a big budget", could you be more specific? Budgets vary wildly, depending on region, and my idea of "not a big budget" could be lavish to you... or laughably low.

This is true regarding Catholic weddings, and a lot of churches can be kind of strict on allowing you to be married in a church that isn't your own. My sister-in-law is Lutheran, which is a little more laid back, and she was getting married in Wisconsin because she lived out there for a few years. Her church was back here in Connecticut and she wanted her pastor from Connecticut to do her wedding in a church in Wisconsin, and I remember her saying it got a little complicated because of all of the rules. So if you're Catholic and belong to a church, I'd start there with your questions and see what they suggest.

Catholic who planned a destination wedding here! (Pre-covid, ended up moving back to home when pandemic hit). You'll need to work with a priest in your church who can call the destination church and send your paperwork. You also may need to do pre-cana with both priests so that they feel comfortable letting you get married.

Definitely share your budget and ideas.

Thank you Elizabeth, we’ll definitely talk to the priest this week and we’ll ask these questions. Our budget is between 5k - 7k. That doesn’t include our flight and accommodations. I’m looking for a island that doesn’t require a visa for Ecuadorian citizens ( I love Jamaica ) but I guess we can try Mexico or DR. We’re not really rushing on getting married so as long as there is like a holiday or summer vacation will work between September this year and next year. My fiancé is a teacher so we have to work on schools schedule. My job is very flexible

    Hi Rebecca,

Thank you for taking the time and replying my message. Our budget is between 5k - 7k this doesn’t include our accommodations. We either have something very small only parents and siblings that can be about 15 people. Or more people close friends, cousins and extra family that could go up to 30 or more. If we do it this year we may be able to save some money because of COVID, but if we do it next year I feel I have to invite more people. Smiley sad

We are in NJ and we’re looking anywhere in the Caribbean. I realized Puerto Rico is just as expensive as doing it here so I’m going to have to eliminate it from the list

    Hi Allie,

Thanks for your comment. I was looking maybe for a Resort that has a small church with an ocean view. I’ll keep looking but anyone else come across with any info, would be appreciated. We went to Valentin Imperial in Mexico and they had a beautiful capilla but it’s inside the resort not by the ocean
