Dedicated June 2021

7:30am

Blair, on May 12, 2021 at 2:06 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

On June 5th I will be having my wedding reception. The start time for the reception is at 5 and I told my photographer to be at the venue at 4 to start taking pictures of the wedding party. My makeup artist wants to start on the first bridesmaid at 7:30am. Is that normal? Some of my bridesmaids feel that is too early.

It depends on how many you have. I was in a wedding where we started at 7:30 AM and we went up to 4 PM because they could only get through 1 bridesmaid an hour.

Does the make up artist plan on sticking around for touchups? In my opinion this seems rather early. Yes of course setting spray and translucent powder etc. etc., but if she’s not planning on sticking around for touchups, then in my opinion yes that is way too early. Especially if your bridesmaid doesn’t know how to touch up on her own, which I don’t personally think they should even have to worry about that seeing as how expensive make up artists are

Then my guess is she is budget 1 an hour + lunch break. I would ask her how long she needs for each to see why she said 7:30. In my experience, the airbrush took the entire hour but it may have just been the stylist we used for that wedding.

That is a bit early, but I also think it's do-able if that's what works best! I was gonna have 2 MUAs (the MUA I initially contacted/hired and then her friend who she partners with on large jobs) to get through 11 makeup applications. So with 2 professionals, we could afford to start mid-morning instead of early morning. I will say it would be a super nice gesture to include breakfast for the BMs who will be there during breakfast time. But your wedding is right around the corner, and the MUA may not want/be able to bring in someone else this late in the game (not to mention that it would cut her earnings in half). If you keep the schedule as is, it could make for a very easy, relaxed day with lots of time for hanging out and quality time!

I think that sounds normal for 9 people.

We started at 8am for a 2:30 ceremony, getting ready/dressed pictures starting at 11:45. There were 5 of us getting ready. 1 girl did both my hair and make up and then 2 other stylists for the other 4. So 7:30 for a 5:00 ceremony seems VERY early to me. I guess if there is only 1 stylist she would have to start super early but I’d hate to be that first girl!

Unless she moves slowly and is super meticulous with applying makeup or she's taking breaks in between each person, that seems really early to me.

For context, I have 7 people total and we're starting at 10am and plan to be finished around 2:30pm for our first look. When I did my trial, my makeup took 45 minutes and that was with her trying out a few different things and mixing the right shade for the airbrushing. The bridesmaids' makeup shouldn't take as long as the bride's.

We started at about 11 am for a 6 pm ceremony (pictures began about 4 or so) - myself, 3 BM, both moms - one MUA

We got to the hotel at 8am by the time started it was like after 8am since the hotel people wasn’t organized and my ceremony was at 2pm. So I don’t think it’s early. You must have a lot of ladies. Honestly better to be earlier so the person/people don’t have to rush. You also don’t want to be late!

We are a small group so this may be irrelevant. We’re starting at 2; ceremony at 6:30. Me plus 3 BM’s. At my trial she took note of everything she will be using. I will go first so I can do my first look with FH at 4:30 and she will continue with my girls. She is going to stick around until after the ceremony for any touch ups as well as when I finish my first look, but she is contracted to finish by 6.

That seems incredibly early. Does she work by herself or with a colleague? She should be bringing in help for working more than 3 people. Talk to her about bringing in a second artist (many have colleagues they trust) and moving to a later start time.
