7Pm Wedding Timeline

Melissa, on April 22, 2019 at 1:04 PM Posted in Planning 1 6
I am a friend of the bride. The invites have been sent out and I'm trying to make the order of events. I don't like that we'll be eating so late, but heavy apps in case people haven't eaten is more expensive.
Here's what I have
7 Ceremony
7:30 Cocktail and Hors Douerves
8 Dinner
8:45 Cake cutting
9 First Dance
9:15 Shake what your mama gave ya
10 Charcuterie & S'mores
11:30 send off
Any ideas on how to make it better??

That seems like a fine timeline but I would add in time for speeches and parent dances.

Hi there! So I don't think there is really anything you can do to change it. A lot of times its the venue that dictates how the timeline is set because of how much time they give you for the event. My venue is a 6 hour package, with our ceremony starting at 6:30pm so dinner would be around 8 as well. The appetizers during cocktail hour should be able to hold guests over until dinner. I would say if you think you'll be hungry, eat a little something before you head to the wedding.

Is the guest count low and will 30 mins be enough time for cocktails and appetizers? Also, if they’re happening back to back, then the cake cutting and first dance won’t take 15 mins total.

I don't think 8 is that late, it's probably expected for a 7PM wedding. A half hour is a short cocktail hour, is that enough time for pictures? Can she skip evening charcuterie and do more appetizers earlier?

Is she doing plated or buffet for dinner? I would have never thought of this, but my wedding planner pointed out it typically takes "x" minutes to get a certain number of guests through a buffet line. 45 minutes may be plenty of time, but it just depends on how many people she's got. Otherwise people may still be in line/eating when they cut the cake.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the feedback. There are 60 RSVPs so we'll have tables and food for 74 to be safe. The food is supposed to be buffet but I've made it into a menu so it can be served straight... Just have to pitch it to the bride 🤞
