8 weeks to get our photos back??

Bearpenguin, on April 24, 2017 at 12:28 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

Hi all, I'm getting anxious because our photographer said it will take up to 8 weeks to get our photos back. Our wedding was already a month ago but we didn't hear back anything from him yet. I asked if we can see some previews while we were waiting but he said no. I'm not sure if it's normal since I've heard 4 weeks wait for photo to be edited is already long enough. Our photographer is an established one with good reviews. What do y'all think? Is this normal or something is going wrong?

The wedding was beautiful and my family member who couldn't attend are still waiting too see some pictures, and now I'm feeling sad because I still have to tell them to wait.

My photographer is 6 weeks. But that is just to look at the gallery and sit down and select our favorites. It's still another 3 weeks after that to get the final images. IMO 8 weeks is perfectly fine.

Waiting another 4 weeks in the grand scheme of things is no biggy.

8 weeks is pretty standard, they have to sift through tons of photos and then go back and edit the good ones.

    Mine took almost 3 months.

8 weeks is pretty standard. Relax.

As others have stated, read your contract, but it sounds pretty standard. But, I'm surprised your photographer has provided at the very least, a teaser, one photo.

I was married on Saturday and have already received 27 teasers.

I think that is pretty standard. I am a photographer myself, and wedding season gets really busy. some photographers do multiple weddings each weekend. With 700-900 photos per wedding, that is a TON of photos to edit. Don''t rush perfection!

I wouldn't be worried it's officially wedding season. read your contract for a specific turn around time and stick to that. If he goes beyond the timeframe I'd give him a call and see where he is in the process

Our photographer will have online viewing a week after the wedding and then will provide us with a USB of all photos 10-15 days later. If we choose to have prints made by him we would receive a discount but we are free to get as many photos made as we want with the USB.

Sounds very normal to me. They have thousands of images to sift through, prepare, and edit. You're halfway there. Just be patient, and in another month or so you will have them.

That is pretty standard, but I feel your pain. 8 weeks feels like forever.

Oh, and why would you figure something had gone wrong? It sounds like you were told 8 weeks all along. There is no reason to get antsy at this point.

Thanks everyone, I think I'm relaxed a little but I think my anxiety mostly comes from the fact that I haven't seen any "teaser" at all, even after I asked...so I don't know what to expect at all, since he never shoot a wedding at our venue. But I will wait and see then : )

Turnaround time on the photos and whether or not the photographer will even do "teaser photos" is entirely specific to that individual photographer, and should be addressed in the contract. Did the photographer tell you that you would receive teaser pictures, or is it just something you've seen from other brides?

I got my pictures back much faster than I thought I would, but was prepared to wait 3 months because that was what was stated in the contract!

Check your contract it usually says about turn around time. 8 weeks is pretty standard. Usually they'll send you a sneak peek but maybe this particular photographer chooses not to for whatever reason. Relax!

Im pretty sure mine says 6-8 weeks. This is a little over the top. If he said it takes 8 weeks, let him do his job and give him 8 weeks. I'd be pretty annoyed if I got bugged in half the time I told them it would take. It's getting to be the peak of wedding season. He's got more to do than JUST edit your pictures.
