8yr old niece....what can I have her do in the wedding?!! Please help!

TeamFord, on October 30, 2013 at 11:43 AM Posted in Planning 0 19

I don't have any kids, and my nieces are my heart!! I have my youngest, 5yr old as the flower girl. We aren't having a ring barrier. And FH has two kids, 16yr and 6yr. I have both of them wearing our wedding colors and participating in the sand ceremony....so that's taken care of. I really want to have my baby girl (niece) in my wedding!! But I want it to make sense. Does anyone have any suggestions??

There's nothing wrong with 2 flower girls. Or if she's comfortable, you could have her so a reading.

You could have her walk down the aisle with a "here come the bride sign". I've also seen where a child walks down the aisle ringing a bell announcing that the bride is coming. Or just have two flower girls (which is what I did).

@Amanda, @Thankfully, and JennaPie -If I have both of them as flower girls...would they walk down together??

And I thought about the junior bridesmaid, she's old enough where she would stand there without getting too bored and wondering off like the 5yr old. lol

There's a cute episode on say yes to the dress bridesmaids where the bride had a little sister that had been a flower girl 4 times already and made it clear she wasn't doing it again!

the bride made her the maid of honor over the older sister!

if you have netflix, take a look! I like the idea of junior bridesmaid. Smiley smile

FH has a young cousin, I was basically told by FMIL that she should be in the wedding. (I don't care really, if it makes the Future in-laws happy, then fine). She will be a Junior BM b/c she's around 9 and FMIL said that's too old to be a Flower Girl.

I'd have them walk down at the same time. They're pretty small still at 8...I think it would be adorable.

You can have more then one flower girl. My 7 year old is a flower girl and my 5 year old niece is a mini flower girl lol I also have two junior bridesmaids. She can carry a sign can carry flower, a little banquet. There's plenty of creative ideas... just pick one. Even my 10 month old will have a little flower lol

Junior bridesmaid? My friends 9yo we wanted as our flower girl, but my FH has a 4 year old cousin so we bumped the 9yo to junior bridesmaid.

That means she gets to be a part of the party, ride in the bridal party transportation, go get hair, make up and nails done, and basically be with you all day. She will feel like a princess! Smiley smile

I have a little cousin who is around the same age as your niece and she also wanted to participate in the wedding. Therefore, I'm having her distribute pashminas to all of our female guests as they arrive to the ceremony site. My advice would be to incorporate her in the bridal party (if possible) and if not, give her a small (but significant) job.

My daughter is 9 and she is my junior bride. I would think 8 is ok to have as a junior bridesmaid or a flower girl. It could be her choice!

We decided not to have a flower girl or ring bearer, but I have two nephews (8 and 10). We are having the boys hand out ceremony programs. I made them cute badges with their names, the date and "Program Attendant."

I also think the idea of two flower girls is fine. And the idea of her carrying a sign (Here comes the bride) before you walk in is adorable.

    Good luck!
