a bit of humor in our ceremony.

Jessie, on August 27, 2019 at 7:26 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 12
We want so little bit of humor in our ceremony script, I've been looking online for some fun ideas but haven't had much luck. I found a decent one for the ring exchange; "There are 3 rings of marriage. The wedding ring, The Engagement ring and the suffering. We hope the latter can be held to a minimum."

Any other ideas or things you've heard/seen done before?

Thanks Smiley heart

We wanted something a bit funny as well so we wrote things into our vows for each other.

That's so funny. Our humor was also written into our personal vows

My best friends daughter had a five minute ceremony, performed by a long time friend. They included lots of pop culture references...but my favorite was the opening. Princess Bride...”Mawige...mawige is what brings ya together today.”

I'm opening up my vows with a zinger, "On our first date you called dibs on "stay at home boyfriend"; I probably should've taken that as a clue to run while I still could...." Smiley xd

He and I are both goofs, so i'm sure we'll have some humor during the vows. Our wedding cake topper shows our humor. He says I need to add some grey to the groom's hair since he's salt and pepper haired!

cake toppera bit of humor in our ceremony. 1

I knew someone who attended a friends wedding where the officiant did the entire ceremony in the Princess Bride style. She said it was funny at first, and then just awkward after everyone realized it wasn't stopping, and on top of that most of the guests didn't get the reference haha.

The last wedding I went to, the bride and groom had two friends officiating, and they wrote the vows without showing them to the couple. So the bride was repeating things like, "I promise to always love you; to take the dog out when you go on early morning runs; to always leave DiGiornos in the freezer when I leave; and to be your best friend forever." It was super cute and they were both surprised and cracking up. The groom was really psyched about the pizza in the freezer part haha

We also want some humor for the big ceremony in front of friends and family. Our "officiant" is a good friend and a total crack-up. We're working with him to open with some laughter and sentimentality. We wrote the rest of our ceremony to combine the sweet and the silly. Most of the laughs from us will probably come from our vows.

I have officiated a lot of weddings for couples that want to do this as well. Inside jokes and references to fandoms they like tend to go over best. I got to do the Princess Bride wedding scene and pronounced a couple "By the Power of Greyskull".

Yes, whatever fun thing it is, I’d say moderation is key. Too many inside jokes or an entire Princess Bride voiced ceremony would be confusing for people. And while it is your wedding, what’s the point of inviting witnesses if they don’t understand what’s happening?

I’m sure your ceremony is going to perfectly reflect your personality whatever you do.
I’m jealous! We are having a full mass in a Catholic Church so I don’t get a lot of wiggle room. The reception is where we will add those personal touches.

We had humor, but not straight jokes, and nothing disparaging marriage haha. We included a bit of “our story” in the ceremony script and included some funny stories (...like how neither of us knew which finger the engagement ring goes on when he proposed, haha....so then at ring exchange time the officiant joked to him to make sure it was the correct hand)— little things like that. Kept it light hearted and amusing without being super jokey

We wrote our own vows, so we threw jokes in there as we could. Our pastor is also very fun, so he joked around a few times during the ceremony to make guests laugh, and to help us calm our nerves.
