A different kind of mother son dance?

PennyIA, on January 9, 2016 at 1:41 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 4

I'm a mature bride... (turning 50 before my big day) and my parents are long gone.

I was thinking of having my sons (27 & 12) both walking me down the aisle.

AND I wanted to do something a little different. I'd like to have two Mother son dances. The first for my honey and his mother which will be the traditional mother son dance.

But then I thought I'd follow that with my own Mother son dance and dance half of it with my eldest son and half with my youngest son. So many mother son songs are about the groom's big day (understandably) but what would be some good ideas for a song for a mature bride and her sons?

Any ideas???

I like the idea. It's sweet. Just keep the dances short. As a guest, I hate sitting and watching everyone else have fun. It kills the mood.

I agree, at first I was thinking that halfway through his mother/son dance we'd switch over... but I was worried it might be considered rude to do so? But if we did a section of each song, it might only be a minute or so for each... and pick the best part of the song specific for him & his mom and me and my sons.

I did this. I danced with my son and then my husband danced with his mother.

I don't think it has to be a song specifically about moms and sons. In fact to me that can often be very cheesy. I always like it best on these spotlight dances when the people involved pick a song that means something to them within the relationship. Perhaps there's a song that you used to listen to together? Or a favorite artist that you all went to see in concert? My dad and I danced to a Jimmy Buffett song because my whole family loves him and we see him in concert every chance we get. It wasn't a traditional father/daughter song but it was perfect for us. There's even a line in there that says "Yes I am a pirate, 200 years too late." which is SO my dad. He is such a crazy hippie and just the type of guy who might have been Jack Sparrow if he'd been alive back then. He didn't even know I'd picked it until it started playing and he really was thrilled.
