A drink before the ceremony?

Mimosas while getting ready? A shot to calm the nerves before the first look / walk down the aisle? A beer at the bar in the venue? Almost all the 'getting ready' pictures I see have some glass of somethin' featured So honestly, who did it / plans to drink before their ceremony? *Photo: Nakai...

Nope. It was a hot and humid day. Alcohol would have put me into the nausea zone.

    M that is awesome.

I'll be having a mimosa or two, but not very much.

I might get a mini bottle of scotch to share with FH during the fist look.

My dad handed me and DH his flask during picture time. Definitely got some great pictures of that.

I had some champagne before the ceremony.

Just a reminder though, if you are drunk or if the officiant suspects you are drunk, they cannot legally marry you. So don't get drunk.

This is a touchy subject for me. My mom is a recovered alcoholic. She say's she doesn't have any issue with people drinking around her but I'm still a little hesitant. Plus my best friend who will getting ready with us is only 20 and I'm afraid my mom and granny would be offended if I let her have something. I certainly want to just cause ummm mimosa's are amazing. So we'll see.

Mimosas while getting ready and that's it for before. If the church sees or smell alcohol we won't be able to get Married but after for sure!

We had a few bottles of wine.

We also drank DURING the ceremony... heeey traditional Scottish! I thought we had agreed to fill the cup with apple juice. It was definitely Scotch.

I plan on having one while i'm getting ready but not too many.. when I get drunk I tend to wobble around in my heels and refuse to take them off for anyone even though they all swear I'll fall and hurt myself.. so only one beforehand Smiley smile

    M - that is incredible.

Me and the girls definitely had a few mimosas while getting ready. Then we were waiting in the bar in the hotel before we walked over to the ceremony site and we did a shot. I totally needed it, I was a nervous wreck!!

ps - don't worry, the ring bearer got a shot of sprite with a splash of cranberry to look like ours Smiley winking

I don't know why, Emmy, but I always picture you as a chick with pointy ears, whiskers, and a long tail, lol. In reality, you're pretty damn beautiful, and in the photo you posted, absolutely regal. You own the whole picture -- from corner to corner.

As to the OP's question, there's nothing wrong with a little liquid enhancement on the biggest spotlight day of your life. However, whenever there's been a problem at a wedding we've worked, it can always be traced back to the groom and his attendants getting trashed WAY too early. Pace yourselves, grooms. For those who like to drink, it's an art and a science.

Will probably have some wine or mimosas getting ready. Although, I did say no colored fluids near my dress, so maybe just champagne.

Aww centerpiece - I might frame that comment, thank you! But yeah, I did have to hide my ears and tail all through the wedding. It was a nightmare

Would love to share a glass or 2 of wine with my MOH, but, having an 11 AM ceremony, so realistically we probably won't.

While outside waiting for my limo to show up at my parent's home, my Dad came up to me with 2 beers ... one for him and one for me. He said, "Your limo driver called. He broke down and it's going to be awhile." He then raised his can of beer and took a drink. I drank with him and had a great time.

Meanwhile ... on the other side of the city, my fiancé was informed that "she's not here!" "She's not here yet!!!" "Where is she?" "OMG!!!!! SHE'S NOT COMING!!!!!"

This is 1989. No cell phones. My husband starts freaking out.

I get to the church all happy and thrilled and am greeted with, "Jeff has a note for you. Where have you been? Do you still want to get married?"

    WTF???!!!

Everyone can use a good stiff drink on their wedding day.

LOL, Kathleen...yep, I remember being married in the 1980s. I also remember being significantly late to the ceremony (due to sleeting rain on the evening of January 30 -- our wedding date). Of course there were no cell phones, and it never occurred to me to have the driver stop at a pay phone to call the church to let my husband know that the weather and traffic were going to cause a delay. I was driving along on a NJ highway, and I never even imagined that my husband thought I wasn't showing up. At our reception he said, "I thought you weren't showing up."
