A Wedding With an $800 Budget!

mrs, on August 12, 2011 at 11:29 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 232

Hi ladies! After my man proposed we started thinking, "How are two twenty-eight-year-olds with tons of college debt going to have a nice wedding??" We only had under a grand of spare cash and didn't want to have to have our parents chip in. We decided a "budget wedding " was all that we needed. Here's the breakdown: marriage license - $40. Invites - $50. Flowers - $50. Other decor: $30. Food - $550. cupcakes - $15. Rings - $20. Material for dress - $20 and I'm not a seamstress. Minister/DJ - free (a friend). Tuxedo - free (massage trade). Wedding planner/band and vocal coach - free (a massage trade) and hair - free. My point of this post is to encourage couples that are broke that with some creativity, you can still make your day special.

Congrats! Be sure to look into the validity of your marriage.

    * In several states, any marriage performed by such an officiant is invalid.

Definitely would love to see pictures! Any pointers on how to bring down my budget would be appreciated. My budget is $5500...and I'm struggling to cut things out STILL!

And everyone looked great! Venue - our backyard. Reception - it was at our favorite karaoke bar and all they had us pay for was food. $500 for the buffet. We had about 100 guests. Everyone told us "best wedding they'd ever been to." The bridal party loved it because they could be comfortable in just about anything. We did however splurge and buy a matching tux for the ring bearer. He was adorable. The best thing is that we never have to do it again!! Oh, and besides my emerald engagement ring, each ring was under $10 online. Now we're married with no wedding debt, and a former bridal party who still likes me because I never told them how to style their hair. Smiley smile

Dear mrs cooper, what are you looking to cut? In my opinion start with your flowers. "Wedding" flowers are insane.

Gosh, I hope my girls don't hate me because I ask them to style their hair a certain way. ((rolls eyes)) I'd like to see photos, too - I'd really like to see your dress, $20.00 for fabric and you've never sewn before? Interesting.

My flowers actually are pretty manageable. We have 10 people in our bridal party....So, 4 bouquets, my bouquet, a jr. BM bouquet, flowergirl pom, 10 bouts and 4 corsages for $327.

True. It's only a good inexpensive wedding if it's a beautiful one.. Pictures por favor.

Did this wedding happen in real life or in your head? Because without pictures, I'm inclined to believe it was a lovely fantasy.
