Hi ladies! After my man proposed we started thinking, "How are two twenty-eight-year-olds with tons of college debt going to have a nice wedding??" We only had under a grand of spare cash and didn't want to have to have our parents chip in. We decided a "budget wedding " was all that we needed....

Hi ladies! After my man proposed we started thinking, "How are two twenty-eight-year-olds with tons of college debt going to have a nice wedding??" We only had under a grand of spare cash and didn't want to have to have our parents chip in. We decided a "budget wedding " was all that we needed. Here's the breakdown: marriage license - $40. Invites - $50. Flowers - $50. Other decor: $30. Food - $550. cupcakes - $15. Rings - $20. Material for dress - $20 and I'm not a seamstress. Minister/DJ - free (a friend). Tuxedo - free (massage trade). Wedding planner/band and vocal coach - free (a massage trade) and hair - free. My point of this post is to encourage couples that are broke that with some creativity, you can still make your day special.

That's great! A main reason we had a skimpy budget was that an unexpected move came about and now we're trying to sell our house in minnesota. We moved to new mexico.

If your at all crafty, I suggest looking at ETSY.COM and search fabric flower bouquet. They are pretty pricey but not too difficult to recreate. Real flowers are beautiful, but die off. These are a wonderful keepsake and double as favors if you outfit your reception centerpieces with them.

Wow I didn't know why this thread was so long until I reached pg 5.

Is it funny that my boyfriend actually cares about the day of our wedding? Anyway, I guess I'll just hang out with the other bridezillas and hope I don't get cheated on because my wedding is over 800 dollars.

Thanks Carey, my husband and I love etsy, I sell jewelry - mainly "bottomless sandals" that all of my massage co-workers are crazy about. I do however have a thing for real flowers, so besides the band, it was the 2nd thing I didn't want to skimp on. My stepmom and I made all the pieces.

I missed alot of this post.. and I read everything that's happened. I gotta agree with the other brides who take offense to the statement that someone (and I say someone becasue I don't remember who the heck it was) said just because we spend more money on our weddings our FH/FW will cheat on us... that is what is mean. My FH and I are planning our wedding on a limited budget of $2.5k, $3k at the absolute most. We can't afford a big huge wedding that costs 10's of thousands of dollars and we know that. And just because we choose to spend more than $800 on our wedding DOESN'T make us a bridezilla. And I will be another that backs Glenn up. The whole cancer reference that was made.. I'm staying out of that one. I do agree with him on what he said about choices that we make (in general) do put us in the situations we are in. For example, I got involved with the wrong guy, got pregnant and had a baby at 20. Since then I have had bad luck with jobs. My whole job situation I think of as cont

'shit happens'. I apply to jobs all the time, and still am having rotten luck finding a job. Yes in this economy its hard to find a job, but I don't fully blame the economy. If I would've finished college, I know I would've had a much better shot at having a job period, and more than likely a good one at that. But I made my choices, and my choices got me where I am now. But as far as me having a baby at 20, that wasn't anyone's fault but my own, and as a result, I am in the sitaution I am in now, being a single (in the legal sense) unemployed mother having my mother and FH help me out when I have fallen on hard times.

Chelsea, I know you're having a hard time but let me tell you just this one thing that might make you feel better - you're a MOM and lots of women including myself envy that. Be proud that you were able to give the gift of life! Who cares about anything else. You have a child you can be proud of. Smiley smile

Thanks, mrs st. H. The kissing pic? It was my wedding day so I'm sure I had a crazy face in all the pics. Lol. It was so fun.

So, 3 months later now with a house, combined income, the fact that we live together Smiley smile Smiley smile Smiley smile, we are paying off our debts so fast that we'll be financially free within a year. After that we get to talk about babies. <3

Mrs g. - you looked like you had a great day, and in the end that's all that really matters Smiley smile congrats !

Next..i have to agree with Glenn, my life is filled with the choices I've made, some good...some bad....I wouldn't change any of it, even the smallest change in my choices and I wouldn't have met my FI. I picked a harder path in life and although there are times I'm envious of those who took the more secure road, overall I'm content with the life I've had and the experiences I've been blessed with. That being said, that means I've dealt with job loss and not having the security of a large savings to back me up, but that's my doing...nothing was "done to me". I'm definitely a "pick yourself up and dust yourself off" type of girl.

Now when you are talking about illness, there are some things you have no control over (I have epilepsy, I guarantee no choice on my part could have prevented that)...but that's the "wild card" you get sometimes, your choice is how you're going to play that card Smiley smile

Sorry if I rambled I'm pretty exhausted right now Smiley smile lol night all!

Harley, guess I don't know who Glenn is or why he was talking about illnesses. Ester, my husband is a biologist and moved to Pecos (near Santa Fe) for his job. It worked out well for both of us because the massage therapy and arts scene is way cool here so I got a job the day we moved, plus we both have relatives here. We knew no one in minnesota and you could say we both had a pretty rough run there. But like our theme song to our wedding, "God Blessed the Broken Road."

Kristen M, I concur. But its interesting because you can get a good cross section of the people who are getting married on this post. Its more or less turned into a social experiment.
