Hi ladies! After my man proposed we started thinking, "How are two twenty-eight-year-olds with tons of college debt going to have a nice wedding??" We only had under a grand of spare cash and didn't want to have to have our parents chip in. We decided a "budget wedding " was all that we needed....

Hi ladies! After my man proposed we started thinking, "How are two twenty-eight-year-olds with tons of college debt going to have a nice wedding??" We only had under a grand of spare cash and didn't want to have to have our parents chip in. We decided a "budget wedding " was all that we needed. Here's the breakdown: marriage license - $40. Invites - $50. Flowers - $50. Other decor: $30. Food - $550. cupcakes - $15. Rings - $20. Material for dress - $20 and I'm not a seamstress. Minister/DJ - free (a friend). Tuxedo - free (massage trade). Wedding planner/band and vocal coach - free (a massage trade) and hair - free. My point of this post is to encourage couples that are broke that with some creativity, you can still make your day special.

@Glenn... see we were both wrong I thought she made that comment too but it was actually made by another bride.. and I'm sorry but I agree with Christina to a point.. I don't understand why being mean and nasty has become the norm on WW... it makes for interesting reading but I'm sure it also lead to alot of hurt feelings.. because even if you don't know ppl in person no one likes to be told mean and hurtful things by anyone...

Woaah good thing it's the weekend, seems like we need it! lol. This really started by assuming the OP was acting all high and mighty..the way I personally read it was that she was proud of what she did, having a wedding within her means, and excited about it.

Time and time again people are blasted on here for spending beyond their means (as they should get a reality check yes, I agree with that sentiment). But I'm baffled when someone who actually has done just that, spending beyond their means is automatically accused of being self-righteous..interpreting tone--> mama drama llama.

In that case I apologize to the OP, and I've said it before, if you are happy with your wedding that's all that matters

For those of you who question if I'm actually married or not - YES. We did our hw quite thoroughly on that one. Our friend is ordained to perform weddings in minnesota only. Each state is very different. I am recognized as my husbands wife through all means. Social security, taxes, insurance, you name it. Also, we did feed our guests. $600 was spent on a buffet and champagne,

Wow this discussion became something totally different! hey glenn what do you do? just wondering?

anywho i have made horribly mistakes in life that is why i havent finished college. im still going to get married because i have enough money to do so. im changing my life and am making better CHOICES! before i would make choices to help people out and i would sacrifice myself to do that.

I strongle believe that life is a CHOICE! yes bad things happen to EVERYONE and it is up to you on what you do with it. yes maybe glenn might have said it a little to harsh but he is right.

Congrats Mrs. G, I'm glad you had an awesome wedding that was affordable for you and your husband. You both looked extremely happy, and that's all that matters.

On a side note, I didn't take the time to read all these posts, but from what I did read I cannot believe the negativity and the rudeness. Who cares how much she spent, and just because something is worded a certain way it doesn't mean she meant it to insult ppl who are paying a lot for their wedding. Also, if I remember correctly there are quite a few women on this forum that are currently married, so why does it matter that she joined after her wedding. Maybe she was using WW, but never the forums...Ik I used it just for my wedding website for the longest time. Its sad to see so many adults act like children over a website for goodness sakes..this makes me not even want to be a part of WW.

@Elizabeth G: I'm an IT Consultant, mostly I do project management work.

Also kudos to you for realizing that life is all about choices, noticing the bad ones you've made, and going out trying to make better ones!

Well we frequent this place and they gave us a deal. It was an appetizer buffet. Rolls, cheese, veggies, meats, meatballs and some other stuff. They "threw in" 8 bottles of champagne which was just enough for a toast. I think they figured we'd spent a lot of money there over the years and it was super kind of them. Its still our favorite place! It doesn't hurt to be good tippers, too, Smiley smile
