Hello!

So I am wondering if there's anyone else out there without an actual "theme" for their wedding.. If so, has it been more helpful or hurtful during your planning?!

We have made a lot of decisions already (colors, venue, flowers, etc) and I FEEL like things are coming together nicely.. I'm just wondering how people feel about having a theme.. Does a wedding without a theme lack something special?

My FH and I both have pretty simple taste.. I want something very classic and nothing too showy.. I don't want to regret anything from our wedding, so I'm trying to keep things "timeless" and beautiful! Smiley smile

Also, we're getting married at a castle in northern Michigan, which I feel like takes care of a lot of the "decor" stuff for us (it's a beautiful stone building).. and I'm trying REALLY hard to avoid a "princessy" feel for our wedding.. I'm just not a princess type of bride :-P

I don't know if any of this makes sense.. but I'm just looking for general feedback..

Thanks! Smiley smile

Themes, honestly, seem to be a fairly recent thing. You do NOT need a theme. Colors, yes, theme no.

My daughters wedding did not have a theme, unless it was the color (cornflower) or the predominate flower (Calla Lillies) or the semi formal feel.

I have never been to a themed wedding. I think ours will be the first! But that being said, unless you go all out and make it known, I think most themes go unnoticed by everyone but those who helped implement them! And anyway your colors become your theme for most people anyway! Having a theme has helped me focus instead of wanting to do it all though!

No you don't need a theme. As long as the colors go together, you don't need a theme.

A theme is certainly not needed, however, we would suggest some sort of consistent color palette. It makes for nice photos. Best wishes! Smiley smile

If mine has a theme, it's "ecclectic". I just don't like matchy match.

Yay, I'm glad that I'm not the only bride here who doesn't think about a "theme" for my wedding. I just wanted a minimalist wedding but with elegance added to it.

If we have a theme at all, it's whimsy. But we're really not trying for a theme. Just for it to reflect us. We honestly don't even have colors. I worked out a bright palette with the florist, and I've just been pulling kind of randomly from that for everything. But it's not in any way cohesive. I showed her pictures of bright wild flower bouquets, and she found blooms that fit our season (early October) that still gave that feeling. It's basically like all the colors in the flowers, and then white for everything else. White linens, white dishes. My MoH is wearing nude. FH is wearing a black suit with a white shirt. His BM is wearing the same. Black ties. Classic. The napkins are peach. That was my exception to not having colors.
