"About Us/How We Met" on website

MzRosaLu, on November 2, 2015 at 7:30 AM Posted in Planning 1 38

I'm working on our website because we are getting ready to send out Save the Dates soon. I am unsure if I should include an About Us page, or How We Met. I find it awkward to write about myself, and we met online so there's not much of a story to tell lol. Just wondering if any of you would mind sharing what you wrote so I could get an idea of what to say (if i even do this at all)? Thanks!

I met SO on facebook in college *hides* , so I wrote about when I first met him IN PERSON (at a homecoming party), which is usually the story we tell people anyway. The about us part, we just did a short bio(name, age, where we went to school, how long we've been dating, occupation). Try looking at different peoples websites and find someone who did theirs in a style that you like.

FH and I actually met through the people we were seeing at the time. His gf actually cheated on him with the guy I was with. I wasn't with him anymore, though it was only a day or two after I had left. Anyway, we painted a prettier picture lol

    "They met in 2006...

She was in town visiting an old friend at a party. He came to take advantage of the hot tub. They immediately got along and became fast friends. She had to go home to New Jersey, but they stayed in touch and he never forgot about her. Five years later, she moved back to Arizona and they immediately became close. They fell in love and will never part again."

You can read ours. We kinda did a split perspective.

Maybe share your proposal story instead? I'm struggling with this too, my "about us" is one short sentence.

I also deleted this section (I was tired of writing at this point). I did try to have a fun, lighthearted website however. If you need ideas you are welcome to look at www.niaandminbok.com

I just did the short bio. We met via eHarmony, but I just put that we met at the mall - which is where we met for our first date.

I included an about us because people always ask and FMIL says it's a good story.

I'm thinking about leaving that part out.... I also hate talking about myself and we didnt meet in the in a "I want everyone to know" kind of way.... We had a very hard first year and I dont paticularly want everyone to know our (both his and mine) trials in life. I also dont want to lie.

I had the same problem! (We met online and I HATE writing about myself.) So I made my FH write it hahah. And then I edited it. So we came up with:

Lauren and Darren's paths almost crossed many times. When Darren was at Princeton, Lauren was living two miles from campus with her family. And in New York, they were only blocks away from each other for years. But when they finally met one rainy night at Veniero's, (four hours, a cannoli, and a piece of cheesecake later) they knew it was meant to be—and every day since then has only confirmed that. They are so excited for their wedding, but even more excited for their marriage!

I find it awkward to write about myself as well but I feel that the About Us section is a nice personal touch to the website but wanted to keep it short and sweet. We met online too and everyone coming to the wedding already knows that so here's what I said:

"___" has lived all of his life in Scotland.  "____" has lived the majority of her life in Maryland and Virginia in the US. This makes it pretty darn unlikely that we would ever meet.

In the very beginning, we truly never thought we'd make it.  3,500 miles separated us and everyone knows that long-distance relationships have a depressing rate of success.  We quickly became addicted to Whatsap and Skype and racked up an impressive amount of frequent flyer miles.

It will mean the world to us to have you share in a day that has been so hard-won.

I left that part blank on mine. It actually let me choose to activate or deactivate that page so I deactivated it so no one would notice it was missing.

We met while I was at a lingerie bachelorette sex toy party at someone's house when he came home with the owner's husband (the owner was my girlfriend throwing the party). Definitely not something I want my grandmother knowing haha

We did, but I set it up as "How We Met - His Side of the Story" and "Her Side" as well and we each wrote something. I did the same for our proposal story...His and Hers sides of the story. I think it came out really cute and everyone that has read it so far really liked it. I ended up having to edit mine several times because it was soooo long. I tend to be wordy Smiley smile

I deleted it. We set up a date online, met for drinks, had dinner the next night, and I never spent another night at my place again. Some story.

We took it as a chance to explain ourselves a little bit to those who may not know much about me or James, and a brief description on how we met.

I think our About Us section is awkward, but I just left it. We also met online, and I have just one line about that. We actually starting dating after meeting online and broke up, then reconnected, but I left most of that out because the circumstances were complicated and involve exes that neither of us speak of anymore.

Aww shucks. Thanks @spazzy. I wanted to make guests laugh and not take things too formally. That's really our style. We also met online, Tinder to be exact.

I included the How We Met bc we are from two different states, and we live in a completely different state from both our families and the wedding. So it was important to me that our families can learn about us and our rship. Most don't know exactly. All they know is we met in law school. That's my favorite parts to read on the wedding website though, so I am biased. The website is not complete yet.
