"About Us/How We Met" on website

I'm working on our website because we are getting ready to send out Save the Dates soon. I am unsure if I should include an About Us page, or How We Met. I find it awkward to write about myself, and we met online so there's not much of a story to tell lol. Just wondering if any of you would mind...

Just wondering if any of you would mind sharing what you wrote so I could get an idea of what to say (if i even do this at all)? Thanks!

We left it off because our wedding was really small so everyone who was coming with the exception of just a couple people had probably heard the story a dozen times (DH LOVES telling it and even does voices). If you don't have a long story of how you very first met, perhaps supplement it with a little about your first few months. Talk about your first dates, how you first knew it was love, etc. Perhaps even add a paragraph about how he proposed because if nothing else it might save you having to tell that story 100 times.

I think this section is fun and adds a bit of a personal touch to your website. I does not have to be anything crazy. Just write the story freehand and see what you come up with Smiley smile Mine was as follows:

"One night in Devon and her friend were hanging out on Allen Street in Downtown Buffalo. It was late and Devon was ready to go home, but her friend convinced her to stop into Mulligan's Brick Bar for one last drink. Devon resisted at first and then finally gave in. If Devon had said no, we would not be where we are today!

Standing at the end of the bar was very tall, handsome guy hanging out with his friend after work. Through a series of events led by Devon's friend, Matt and Devon began talking and closed out the bar that night (note that bars in Buffalo close at 4am)! After 2 weeks of courtship, in May 2013, Devon and Matt officially began their journey to where they are today as boyfriend and girlfriend.

On September 9, 2015, Matt got down on one knee and proposed to Devon on the beach when they were on vacation in Folly Beach, South Carolina. Matt wrote in the sand "Devon, will you marry me?" Of course Devon said yes!

Devon and Matt are very excited that they are able to share this wonderful day with family and friends!"

We labeled it "Our Story", here it is:

It was fate that brought Tim and Delisa together. While Tim was born in Ottawa, Ontario, Delisa was born in Cleveland, Ohio. With fate pushing them together they met in Orlando, Florida.

Tim was the middle child to Peter and Marjorie Craig. His older sister, Ashley lives in Edmonton, Alberta and his younger brother, Andrew lives in Beijing, China. Growing up the family moved several times and Tim eventually moved to Orlando, FL where he would soon meet the love of his life.

Delisa, also a middle child, is daughter to Gilbert and Rosalina Rodriguez. Delisa's older sister, Clarissa lives in Cleveland, OH and her younger sister, Celina lives in Strongsville Ohio. Always dreaming of moving to Florida, Delisa made the move at her first chance when attending the University of Central Florida.

Delisa and Tim met in October 2009 while working at Pizza Hut. The more the couple knew each other the more they began to flirt. Soon enough, the pair went to First Watch a Daytime cafe for their first date (depending on who you ask). After the first date, Tim wanted to know Delisa even more. And as for Delisa, well, she wasn't quite so sure.

However, the flirtations continued and the pair decided to go on another date (or first according to Tim). Tim took Delisa out for her first motorcycle ride and the pair was inseparable ever since! Tim ended up leaving Pizza Hut to work full time as a plumber at Herrell Plumbing. After graduating college Delisa went on to pursue her career as a Social Worker.

Fast forward to January 2014 and the couple purchased their first home in Oviedo, FL. With them lives their 9 year old Jack Russell Canela.

After being together for over 5 years, Tim took Delisa out for what soon became a day to always be cherished. On July 11, 2015 Tim started the day by taking Delisa to her favorite beach, Playalinda. After a perfect day at the beach, the couple later that evening went to Christner's steakhouse. Tim reserved a private room for just the two of them. After an impeccable dinner Tim got down on one knee and proposed. Naturally, Delisa said yes and the wedding planning began right away!

This part of the website is why I never finished mine. You guys all seem to have nailed it! You've inspired me to attempt to tackle it again :-)

I hate when people write too much in these sections. I kept the About Us page and kept it short and sweet (also because how we met is something I don't share readily and I didn't think a proposal in our pajamas while I was sick was something spectacular- if either of these happened differently I might feel differently).

I wrote something to the effect of: "We work in NYCs public schools by day, and during our free time lift heavy things, spend time with our furry son and travel the world (8 countries, 19 states and counting!)"

You don't have to include that section at all. We didn't. We kept our wedding website down to information useful to our guests: wedding schedule, menu, locations and maps, weather forecast, thanks to people who had helped us out, registries, and RSVP page. We figured if they were invited to the wedding, they were close enough so they already knew about us.

    I just bullshitted it:

"[FW] and [pigeon] met in 2009 while saving a number of golden-haired children from a runaway horse. They have been steadfast companions in all things ever since.

[FW] is an accomplished actress in local community theater and a pretty good storyteller. She's probably saved the world at least once while [pigeon] wasn't looking. She enjoys Magic: The Gathering, PC games, and Captain Janeway.

[pigeon] is an accounting student at the local state university, working as a seasonal tax preparer while they complete their education. [pigeon] is also nonbinary and prefers to be referred to as they/them. They enjoy baking with sourdough, video games, and social media.

Together, [FW] and [pigeon] enjoy ballroom dance, impromptu picnics, and being inadvertent hipsters."

We met online as well. I'm not ashamed to share it. I wrote about the fact that I dated a lot and had to dodge a lot of duds before finding the one I had always hoped to find!

@m your comment made me LOL... If I'm being 100% honest, my first date with FH lasted a whole weekend. And then we pretty much started living together a few months later. Not such an appropriate story to share lmao. @everyone else - thank you for the suggestions and sharing your stories, ladies. Right now I am thinking I may just include a really short little blurb about the proposal and just call it a day.

We combined an "about us" page with the photo album page, and just called it "us":

He greeted her with a kiss on the cheek (they don't do that much here in the Midwest) and took her hand as she climbed over a couch at a bar on her birthday. She thew her head back in laughter when he told an off-color joke. (The moment he was hooked.)

There's been a lot of laughter and constant affection ever since. And lots of food and wine.

(and then a bunch of photos from throughout our relationship.)

I think it's only really necessary if a lot of your guests haven't met one of you, or don't know the other person very well.

I've seen it where they each write each other's section. Then, they can write effusively about the other person, whereas it would just be weird to write braggy things about yourself.

I found it really awkward to type about myself too. I feel like I don't do anything interesting lol, so I didn't have much to say. Here's what I finally ended up writing..

"Joel and I met in May 2009 through mutual friends on a camping trip. We started dating the following year, and in April 2013 we welcomed our beautiful daughter, Lacey, into the world.

In July 2015, while camping at the park we met at six years prior, Joel got down on one knee in front of our friends and proposed. I said yes, of course, and we're so excited to spend the rest of lives together!

In our spare time we enjoy taking Lacey on outings, going out for sushi, and catching up on our favourite show, (The Walking Dead!)."

I found this part awkward to write as well, but I tried to keep it light-hearted and fun. It's kind of a cute story. We grew up on opposite sides of the city and we ended up meeting in the middle. We both lived in the same condo building and met walking our dogs, so I basically wrote about that and then included a timeline of when we met, when we moved cities and started living together and when he proposed.

I included the about us section as we hadn't met all of each others families before. We just did a very basic how we met, where we live, a bit about our dogs and how he proposed. I really over thought it and it took me forever to write, in the end nobody said anything about the website so it probably doesn't even get read by most of the guests.
