So, long story short... our original baker refused to move the deposit of our wedding cake to our new date once Covid hit. So, long story short... our original baker refused to move the deposit of our wedding cake to our new date once Covid hit. Rather than pay her another $500, we decided to take $500 we had already paid her as a loss, and go with a different bakery who would allow us to move our date if the pandemic was still an issue on our new date. Fast forward to today, and suddenly the original baker is emailing me telling me she is now willing to transfer our deposit to our new date. so, it looks like we will now be having 2 wedding cakes! 🤦🏼‍♀️😂🤷🏼‍♀️
Our first wedding cake will be heavy, rich & chocolate based. So we thought for the second cake we would like something light. Maybe something fruity? I have also heard of champagne wedding cakes, but have never actually tried one. Has anyone tasted a champagne cake before? Does it actually taste like champagne?? Any suggestions for light flavored or fruity cakes are greatly appreciated!

I've never tasted a champagne cake, but it sounds yummy!!

Before I landed on almond as my wedding cake flavor, I was going with a chantilly cake. It's a light white cake with buttercream icing and filled with raspberry puree. it is often decorated with strawberries, raspberries and blueberries. It's DELICIOUS -- one of my favorite cakes. To give you an idea, I don't know where you're based, but if there is a Publix or Whole Foods nearby, they sometimes sell chantilly cakes by the slice.

This is a picture of the one from Publix, but the one from Whole Foods is the same. It's absolutely yummy!! (Makes me want to pick up a slice right now. LOL!).

    You're very welcome!

You're welcome! I was also thinking that if you end up not wanting two separate cakes on your wedding day, maybe you could consider ordering one of them for the rehearsal dinner, and/or do separate flavor combinations on separate tiers for one or both of the cakes for people who want variety (not sure if that's a thing!).

Thank you so much! I’ve been curious about these cakes for awhile, but having a destination wedding we aren’t able to do a tasting with our bakery. Both places have said they could do a raspberry champagne cake though! And you inspired me to look online – I actually found a place that will deliver a champagne cake to your home! So at least we can get an idea of what they taste like. It should be delivered on Wednesday- I cannot wait to try this!!

Oh wow, that's so funny! I'm glad your original baker was able to move the deposit for you even if you already found another one! My sister had a lemon cake for her wedding and that was so nice and light. Very fresh!
