Activities for kids at reception

Shauna, on December 17, 2021 at 6:04 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 11
I will have five kids at my wedding ranging from 10 months old to 8 years. I need activity ideas to keep them busy at the reception that are not messy or noisy.

In my experience as a guest with many children frequently invited to various weddings, they entertain themselves playing together or dancing with other guests without any disruption. One option is print outs of coloring books with crayons but that may not appeal to both genders and all ages.

I had coloring sheet and crayons, but I don’t think anyone colored. We had a baby, a toddler, and 3 kids. The 3 older kids danced and played together. We had glow necklaces and they LOVED them.

Coloring books and crayons/colored pencils are always a good option! They could be wedding themed, or not. If there's a separate room for the kids away from the reception, you could put a movie on for them. For the older kids, an activity book with easy word searches, "find the difference between these two pictures", mad libs, etc. For the younger kids, maybe picture books, snacks, and/or stuffed animals.

I did some activity books - it didn’t take me long. I had a few basic activities which were in all of them and then I added more for the older kids. Provided some coloured pencils and everyone was happy. Including some of the adult guests who borrowed the coloured pencils to draw pictures for us!

OP, I’ve attended weddings that had small-scale scavenger hunts for kids, coloring/activity book stations and light up/glow accessories and toys.

It depends on the individual child mainly. In my personal experience around children, and this will vary as all children are different and come from a variety of environments, girls of all ages enjoy coloring but only the shy quiet introverts have a longer attention span for it than , say 15 minutes as an example. Boys would prefer to play. They will sit for as long as they are told with supervision but coloring is not something their male peers do so they may not be used to that as a default activity.

Heyyyyyyyy some of the improv games here are a lot of fun and i use them for keeping my apartment kids entertained on my community babysit days. I also read some stories with activities to them- my fave is The Hobbit which would be suitable for the age group you mentioned. All the best!
