Adding Poof to a Trumpet Dress?

CountingDowntoMrs, on February 15, 2017 at 3:10 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 25

I think I want to add some poof to my trumpet-style dress, and am hoping for some insight from anyone who has done this.

How'd you do it? Any photos?

It's got a bit of poof, as you can see in the website photos, but I'd like it to have a little more fullness. Wearing it, the poof it has doesn't hold and just kind of clings to my legs, if that makes any sense.

TIA!!

You could have your seamstress add some tulle under the dress.

A low hoop skirt or adding more crinoline

I think they make slips for trumpet dresses that add a little poof to the bottom.

I got a slip from David's Bridal to go under my dress. It puffed out my dress just enough and saved me money on hemming the dress.

Have you tried on your new dress out of the bag?

A lot of women complain their new dress is even poofier than the model they tried on because the gown hasn't been worn and the tulle is all fresh and plump.

I do have my dress and have tried it on.

Thank you to everyone so far! Does anyone have photos of their after-poof dresses?

They DO make slips for trumpet dresses!! I bought one!! It added some poof, but not as much as I had hoped for. I think you'd be better off having layers of tulle added underneath by a seamstress. It'd be that many less layers you're wearing around your waist. I was already wearing spanx, and a corset bra. One more layer... no thanks!

Here's the link to one. Just google "Trumpet dress slip" and you'll find many.

Get a slip! I would suggest trying the dress on first with a slip before purchasing though! Sometimes a slip can add creases (a problem I had).

Adding layers of crinoline may be your best bet. That way you can add as much or as little poof as you want. You can customize your dress exactly to your liking

& here is a pic with the skirt on. It's from my 2nd dress alterations appointment so it is also partially bustled.

Ditto on the trumpet slip! I tried mine with and without, and liked the shape with the slip, but felt more comfortable without, and kind of like the loose flowy thing going on. I also didn't like how noisy the slip was, lol. Really, so rustle-y. But that could be just the particular one I tried, might depend on the fabric.

Suya - I've seen you post your dress before, and I'm in love - it's gorg!

@SuYa your dress is beautiful! Mine is an a-line, and I added a slip just because it made it easier to walk in, and kept the front from sort of bunching between my legs. I also bought my slip from DB.
