Adding sleeves to wedding dress

Breana, on January 16, 2017 at 12:54 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

Hello! I just found my dress and I was thinking of possibly adding some type of sleeve to go with it and was wondering if anyone has had any prior experience with this to give tips, tricks, advice or share pictures.

Ultimately I love 3/4 or long sleeves but I'm not sure how they will look with this dress so I think a flutter sleeve might look better.

-There are 2 photos of my dress in the comments! Thanks in advance!

Your dress is lovely. I would speak with an experienced seamstress about adding sleeves.

You dress is beautiful. My dress had 3/4 sleeves and I loved it, but it came that way so I'm not sure what it would be like to add them.

You can add a topper. One of my friends did it and took it off for the receiption.

Of course I plan on asking a seamstress, I just thought some opinions or hearing of similar experiences might be helpful. Smiley smile

And the topper is a great idea - I just didn't think it would work since my dress has a shear skin tone later on the front to allow for the illusion back (it's hard to tell in the photo - I'll try to show a new picture here)

The back of your dress is gorgeous. Could you contact the designer to see if you could purchase the same sheer fabric to create the sleeves out of?

Purchase matching lace or fabric from the designer for your sleeves.

The back is so pretty, but I am not sure how the front would look. You might need to cover the sheer nude fabric so that the sleeves look like they're actually a part of the dress.

Please be advised it is expensive. You have to pay for the fabric and the work it takes is quite a bit. I wanted to do it with my gown and it almost doubled the total cost of my dress.

I'm having flutter sleeves built. I bought extra lace from the dress and my seamstress is getting illusion fabric. I just had my fitting last week, so theyre not done yet. But it's definitely possible.

My dress came with a matching jacket with peasant like sleeves that were large at the bottom, I loved it!

My only advice, as PP have already said, is to expect a large alterations bill.

I like those toppers! I hate my arms and I love dresses with sleeves anyway so that was the plan but FSIL has a sleeveless dress that fits me like a glove so maybe I'll go the topper route.

Wow, I paid $6/yd for english net. The markup from designers must be high!

Id recommend asking your designer to send extra lace. I think an illusion 3/4 sleeve would look gorgeous with that dress.
