Adding straps to a wedding dress

Meredith, on September 10, 2017 at 7:55 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

I am possibly considering getting a wedding dress. Problem is its strapless and I want straps. Nothing major they don't even need to be super functional. I just don't like how strapless dresses look on me. The store was able to show me some mock straps which were just ok.

What have you all done for adding straps? Pics would be appreciated!! Did you buy the trim or whatever you used yourself? Where?

** attached is a picture of the dress. I would switch out the belt to something with gold tones

ETA: I am just trying to make sure it looks fairly continuous with the dress. I feel like the line would be there if I use the same material as the dress which would make it obvious. I dont think lace or tulle would flow well either. That is why I am mostly thinking of doing some sort of jeweled or beaded trim. They mentioned they would flow it over the top which would help make it look more natural.

Keep the pictures coming, especially if you added jeweled or beaded trim!!!!

    I'd keep looking.

That dress is gorgeous but it doesn't look like it should have straps.

I added sleeves to my dress. They ordered the exact fabric to match when I bought the dress. This is the fabric pinned on the dress by seamstress

@OliviaP, who is the designer of your dress? And do you by chance know the style? It's exactly what I'm looking for!

I had to add detachable straps to mine because my parish is strict. I'll only wear them during Mass. The bridal shop ordered extra tulle with my dress for $50, plus the cost of the seamstress' work. Here's a photo of the straps pinned on from my 2nd fitting

I don't have a good picture but I ended up purchasing a belt from the salon I picked out my dress at and it will be added to my dress as a halter strap. I didn't want a strapless dress either!

My mom had pulled apart her wedding dress and that's the lace I used for the straps. I am soo soo happy with how they turned out.

My dress came with a strap option to be added. I will wear them for the ceremony and then take them off.

Wait, I found a picture from my first fitting. They aren't beaded yet, but you get the idea.

My bridal salon is ordering detachable straps to go with my dress so that the lace pattern matches exactly.

Does your dress need to be hemmed at all?? A good seamstress should actually be able to make you straps out of the material that they take off the bottom, if there is enough material. That way the straps match perfectly

You can add a jacket/valero option. Thats what i did which you can take off and on if you'd like. Super easy.

I am having straps put on mine too. It is really common to do. I have done it on bridesmaid dress too in the past.
