Adding volume to dress

Taylor, on July 20, 2021 at 12:25 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 4
I’ve always wanted a mermaid gown for my wedding dress. I’ve attached a photo of my dress and I absolutely love it I’m just wondering if it’s possible to add some fullness to the bottom to make it more of a fit and flare? Anyone have any experience doing this? How would you even describe what kind of gown I have? I think it being big on my since I’m so short is throwing me off a little

What a beautiful dress! Yes you absolutely can add fullness to the bottom.

You can get underskirts specifically for mermaid dresses, like this one:

I guess it depends how MUCH volume you want to add, and how far up from the bottom you'd like it to start from - there obviously is a limit to how much you can change the existing silhouette, and you can't get as far as an a-line, but you can definitely get more volume than you have.

Ok so I tried on dresses with the underskirt in the picture above and it’s terrible. The top does not stay up and it was so hot to wear. I had crinoline added under my dress and it looks way better and is so comfortable. You would have to ask the seamstress if you can do that with that style of dress though. Good luck!

You can wear a mermaid/fit-and-flare style crinoline or petticoat under your dress to add pouf in the right spots!
