Address just woman or man and woman?

Sarah, on August 12, 2021 at 12:25 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4
Hi!
If you get a wedding gift before your shower, do you address your thank you just to the woman or to the couple? Or I guess this question is for gifts at the shower too. I know my shower will be just women, but I wasn’t sure if their husbands should be thanked as well.

I would address it to whoever they signed the gift as from. For example, if they included a card with the gift that was signed as from "John and Jane", I would address the thank you note to both of them. If the gift was signed as being from "Jane", then I would write the thank you note to just her.

I thanked whoever signed the card.
If no one signed the card for a gift before the shower, I defaulted to the couple to cover my bases.
If no one signed the card for the gift AT the shower, I thanked only the one who attended the shower.

For all of my thank you notes I put the women who attended first, and if they signed it as a couple or family I would add that second:

"Dear Auntie Jane and Smith Family"

That way, you can thank the individual separately for attending your shower, but include everyone in the gratitude for the gift.

I agree with everyone. Address it to whoever signed the card.
